Circle the wagons
Buffalo is a 2.5-point road favorite over Los Angeles on Thursday night. The Bills handed future Hall-of-Famer Von Miller a massive deal in free agency, upgraded their offensive line, and added corner Kaiir Elam and running back James Cook in the first two rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.
However, the loss of offensive coordinator Brian Daboll could loom large if new OC Ken Dorsey is not as pass happy as his predecessor. The team’s star corner Tre’Davious White will also start the season on the reserve/PUP list.

Super Bowl repeat?
Three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald and head coach Sean McVay floated retirement rumors before predictably securing huge paydays and returning to Hollywood. Concerns about Matthew Stafford’s elbow are also fading as the season draws near. That means the Rams’ passing game should thrive if Allen Robinson can turn back the clock with improved quarterback play.
The bigger question mark is the ground game, with Cam Akers looking to become the first running back to ever return to form after suffering an Achilles tear.
Rams vs. Bills
The oddsmakers expect a lot of scoring on opening night, setting the over/under at a robust 53 points. Josh Allen is the only player in NFL history with at least 100 touchdown passes and 30 rushing TDs over his first four NFL seasons. He’ll be looking to hook up with Stefon Diggs and potential breakout star Gabe Davis.
Meanwhile, it’s fair to wonder if Matthew Stafford will be even better in his second year under Sean McVay. Before going on to win the Super Bowl, the 34-year-old finished the regular season with 4,886 passing yards and 41 TDs.

Best Bet
While Sean McVay and the Rams spent the offseason enjoying the splendors of their Super Bowl victory, Sean McDermott’s Bills head into the season focused on the task at hand.
We like Buffalo to cover the 2.5 points in a lower-scoring battle than most anticipate.
Final Score Prediction: Buffalo 27, Rams 21
