Josh Allen was utterly unstoppable last time we saw him, racking up 329 passing yards, four touchdowns and 68 rushing yards in a 42-36 coin-flip-loss to the Chiefs that spurred the league to modify their playoff overtime rules.
For that reason, the 2022 NFL schedule makers gave the Buffalo Bills the honor of kicking off the 2022 football season in Los Angeles against the reigning-champion Rams.

Circle the wagons
Who isn’t high on the Bills this season? They’re -180 to capture the AFC East and +675 chalk to hoist the Lombardi Trophy while Josh Allen is the co-favorite (+700) to win his first NFL MVP. The recent NFL schedule release also gave Buffalo maximum exposure with five prime-time games and a spot on the Thanksgiving Day slate.
General manager Brandon Beane inked Von Miller to a massive six-year $120-million free-agent contract to add juice to the pass rush, extended star receiver Stefon Diggs, and moved up in the first-round for Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam. Tre’Davious White’s return from an ACL tear will also shore up the secondary for looming battles with the Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herberts and Joe Burrows of the world.
If there’s one potential concern, it’s that former offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is now the head coach of the New York Giants.

Can the Dolphins contend?
Miami (+325) may have been the busiest team of the entire offseason. There’s the ongoing lawsuit from former head coach Brian Flores. The hiring of Kyle Shanahan-disciple Mike McDaniels. The rumors that Tom Brady wanted to head to South Beach. And of course, the trade for All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill, who was last seen on Twitter catching a dead duck from third-year passer Tua Tagovailoa.
The Dolphins also handed a huge deal to offensive tackle Terron Armstead, signed multiple running backs (Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, Sony Michel) and brought in a capable backup in Teddy Bridgewater. But, don’t forget this is a franchise with two postseason appearances in the past two decades. Curb your enthusiasm for the Fins and tread carefully.

Pats, Jets head in opposite directions?
Following up their first losing season since the year 2000, New England (+450) finished with a respectable 10-7 record before Buffalo blew their doors off (47-17) in the Wild Card Round. While a long history of winning makes it difficult to bet against Bill Belichick, this is a hard team to get excited about. The receiving corps is dreadful, Mac Jones could not be less ‘sexy’ despite his wildly-successful rookie season, the defense is average, and their first-round pick was interior offensive lineman Cole Strange. The Patriots don’t look like a playoff team in the loaded AFC.

The NFL cognoscenti crowned the Jets (+2000) as the unanimous winners of the 2022 NFL Draft after GM Joe Douglas selected cornerback Sauce Gardner and receiver Garrett Wilson in the top ten before moving up to snag defensive end Jermaine Johnson in round one, and running back Breece Hall in the second.
With a greatly-improved roster surrounding sophomore quarterback Zach Wilson, there will be no more excuses for the Mormon choirboy turned beefcake if the bottom falls out of the plane again this year. That said, Gang Green is still a much better value than the Pats or Fins given you’ll need a season-ending Josh Allen injury to cash your ticket.
