Panthers (-2) over Browns
Even more bizarre than the quarterback plan in Seattle is what the Browns have maneuvered themselves into this season. Jacoby Brissett did not look remotely like an NFL starter last year. That leaves Nick Chubb and the offensive line to do all the heavy lifting. Baker Mayfield reportedly said, “I’m going to f–k them up” and after all the Deshaun Watson stuff, who wouldn’t like to see that on opening weekend?
With a healthy Christian McCaffrey, an underrated star in D.J. Moore and a promising young defense, the Panthers are primed to get off to a good start in Carolina.

Raiders (+3) over Chargers
Led by promising third-year quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers are once again a fashionable pick among NFL media types. But let’s not overlook Derek Carr and the Raiders, who snuck into the playoffs last season with a 35-32 overtime Week 17 win over Los Angeles. With the additions of coach Josh McDaniels, receiver Davante Adams, defensive end Chandler Jones and DC Patrick Graham, Las Vegas is being overlooked in the AFC West.
Chiefs (-4.5) over Cardinals
Patrick Mahomes versus Kyler Murray is by far the week’s most enticing QB matchup – with the highest over/under (53.5) of opening weekend. Arizona reeled off seven-straight victories to open last season, but Andy Reid will have a few tricks up his sleeve in a new-look Chiefs offense. Kansas City will usher in a new era by doing something they rarely achieved in 2021… covering the spread.

Jaguars (+3) over Commanders
Sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence upgraded coaches from Urban Meyer to Doug Pederson, who will be coaching his first game for the Jaguars against his former student Carson Wentz. While the buzz out of Jacksonville has been positive all summer, the Commanders are presiding over a looming dumpster fire. Wentz struggled with accuracy throughout camp, rookie running back Brian Robinson was shot in an armed robbery, and defensive end Chase Young is on the PUP list.
Cowboys (+1) over Buccaneers
Nobody seems to think Dallas will be any good this season with questions surrounding their offensive line, Mike McCarthy’s job security and Ezekiel Elliott’s decline. However, the Cowboys have more continuity than Tampa Bay, who has a new coach in Todd Bowles, injuries at wide receiver, and offensive line questions of their own.
In the first prime-time surprise of the 2022 NFL season, we like America’s Team and Micah Parsons over 45-year-old Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
