Tom Brady probably regrets coming out of a 40-day retirement for his 23rd season in the NFL. In the midst of a divorce, the 45-year-old is having a dreadful year on and off the field. On Sunday, his Buccaneers managed just three points in a blowout loss to the lowly Carolina Panthers. Now, on a short week, Tampa Bay hosts Lamar Jackson and a Ravens club fresh off a 23-20 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

What’s wrong with Tom?
Coming off consecutive losses against the Steelers and Panthers, Tampa Bay is a surprising 3-4 and tied atop the AFC South with the Falcons. Most expected Tom Brady and company to beat up on a Carolina team that traded star running back Christian McCaffrey just a few days prior to Sunday’s game. But, the Bucs offense couldn’t get anything going all day. And their once formidable defense allowed 173 yards on the ground to D’onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard.
Brady was held to three points or fewer for only the fifth time in his career. It could get worse before it gets better for the 45-year-old quarterback with both the Ravens and Rams coming to town over the next fortnight.

What’s wrong with Lamar?
The Ravens escaped Week 7 with a 23-20 victory over Cleveland thanks to a blocked field goal, but everything is far from alright. Lamar Jackson finished the game with only nine completions for 120 yards passing, the sixth fewest of his five-year career. And, over the past four contests, Jackson has thrown three touchdowns and four picks.
At least Baltimore got its run game going on Sunday. Gus Edwards rumbled for 66 yards and two scores in his season debut and the team finished with 160 yards rushing. A good harbinger heading into a TNF matchup with a Bucs teams that was just gashed on the ground by Carolina.
Buccaneers vs Ravens
The Ravens opened as a 1.5-point favorite over the Buccaneers and the game total is a low 43.5 points. Tied with the Bengals atop the AFC North with a 4-3 record, Baltimore plays its first of three-straight games against the NFC South this Thursday. John Harbaugh’s club needs to string some Ws together. Especially with Joe Burrow starting to heat up as Cincinnati embarks on a winnable stretch of games versus the Browns, Panthers and Steelers.
Once thought as locks to win the NFC South, Tampa Bay could find itself at 3-6 in two weeks if they can’t get their offense going. The good news is they still have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and that Baltimore ranks in the bottom-10 in pass defense.

Best Bet
Tom Brady’s Buccaneers should be the more desperate team heading into Week 8. And while they’re struggling on offense, Tampa Bay has the far superior defensive squad, ranking fifth in the points-allowed-per game (17.7), and third in sacks per game (3.5).
Look for Todd Bowles to devise a game plan that keeps Lamar in the pocket. With everyone bound to be betting the Ravens in this one, we’ll take Brady to win outright as a home underdog in Week 8.
Final Score Prediction: Tampa Bay 24, Ravens 21
