Monday Night Football Odds: San Diego Chargers vs Oakland Raiders

If the San Diego Chargers can’t make a deep run into the playoffs in 2012, there won’t be anything or anybody that can save Norv Turner’s job for the next season.  Their first match will be this Monday night against their division rivals, the Oakland Raiders.

Monday Night Football Odds: San Diego Chargers vs Oakland RaidersThe Chargers could easily be the weirdest team in the NFL as they have one of the strongest rosters in the league, but have failed to make the playoffs in their last two seasons. The windows are closing on this teams best chance at making their first Super Bowl run.

After already losing Darren Sproles last year, San Diego will try to cover the gap of losing wide receiver playmaker Vincent Jackson who left to Tampa Bay for a buck load of money.  Ex-Saints slot receiver Roberth Meachem arrived to San Diego in the offseason looking to become the man that will erase Jackson’s name out of the fan’s minds.

Running back Ryan Mathews is a game time decision to face the Raiders, but it’s unlikely that he’ll step into the field. Expect Ronnie Brown to have a lot of touches, but the Raiders defense could prove far too challenging for the veteran.

For the Raiders, the idea of starting the season with Carson Palmer as quarterback seduces their fans, but the veteran QB has a lot to prove after coming out of retirement in 2011 with a below average year.

The spread is currently sitting at “Pick” which means there is no spread set in what will likely be a tight game.Oakland should be a little better on defense than most people would give them credit, but that shouldn’t be enough to beat the Chargers, despite the Black Hole factor.
