Chiefs vs Titans: NFL Sunday Night Football Week 9 Picks

  • The Kansas City (5-2) are 12.5-point home favorites over the Tennessee Titans (5-2) in Week 9
  • Andy Reid has a 20-3 career record when coming off a bye week
  • NBC’s Sunday Night Football kicks off from Arrowhead Stadium on November 6 at 8:20pm ET

Tennessee traded away star receiver A.J. Brown in the offseason and quarterback Ryan Tannehill missed last week with an ankle injury. But, somehow, none of it matters. One year after capturing the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 12-5 record, the Titans are 5-2 and comfortably ahead in the AFC South.

Mike Vrabel’s club has also enjoyed a great deal of success against this week’s opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs. Before we check the odds for the Sunday Night contest, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2022.

Chiefs coming off a bye

Andy Reid always cooks up something special on his weeks off. Kansas City’s head coach is 20-3 all-time coming off a bye. It’s a scary thought considering how good the Chiefs offense looked in their 44-23 annihilation of the 49ers in Week 7.

NFL MVP betting futures currently have Patrick Mahomes (+400) in third after Josh Allen (+120) and Jalen Hurts (+300). However, considering the loss of Tyreek Hill, the 27-year-old magician might be in the midst of his most impressive season yet. Mahomes has thrown for 2,159 yards, 20 TDs and 5 INTs, averaging 8.2 yards per attempt with a 109.5 passer rating.

It’s Toney Time!

The Chiefs acquired Kadarius Toney from the Giants for a third- and sixth-round pick prior to the trade deadline. It’s hard to say how much playing time the 21st overall in the 2021 draft will step into. But, Reid confirmed the receiver was “healthy” and said he should pick up the offense “relatively fast.”

Toney will add yet another weapon to a KC attack that has targeted four different players at least 25 times.

Chiefs vs Titans

Kansas City is a 12.5-point favorite at Arrowhead and oddsmakers have set the over-under at 46.5. While it’s tempting to bet the Chiefs side against a Titans squad that could be without Ryan Tannehill for a second-straight week, recent history suggests that might be a mistake.

First off, Tennessee stunned the Chiefs 27-3 just last season. They also defeated KC 35-32 in 2019 and played them tough in a 35-24 loss in the 2020 AFC Championship Game. Finally, Mike Vrabel’s squad is 5-2 against the spread this season, while the Chiefs are just 3-4.

The skeleton key for the Titans this week remains the same: feed Derrick Henry. After putting up 200+ yards against the Texans for a fourth-straight game, the monstrous back is third in the league in rushing with 755 yards. He has also averaged 111.4 yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry in five career games against the Chiefs.

Kansas City’s run defense has also been susceptible over the past three weeks, permitting 127 yards per game on the ground.

Best Bet

Assuming Ryan Tannehill suits up, we like the Titans to cover the 12.5 spread with the UNDER. However, it’s impossible to bet against Andy Reid coming off a bye with Patrick Mahomes playing at a career-best level.

Final Score Prediction: Kansas City 26, Titans 17
