First Score of Game
First score of game | |
Philadelphia Eagles Touchdown | +180 |
Kansas City Chiefs Touchdown | +200 |
Philadelphia Eagles Field Goal | +385 |
Kansas City Chiefs Field Goal | +390 |
Kansas City Chiefs Safety | +3300 |
Philadelphia Eagles Safety | +3300 |
Eagles to strike first?
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are +180 favorites to open Super Bowl 57 with a touchdown. Philadelphia has outscored its competition 69-14 in the playoffs. They also ranked fourth in first-quarter points per game (5.8) this season, just one spot ahead of their opponents (5.4 ppg). Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are +200 to strike first with a TD. However, the Green Birds are a better bet to get in the end zone. Philly’s defense finished just outside the top-ten in ‘opponent red zone scoring percentage’ while KC’s D waved the white flag, ranking third-last in the NFL.
By that same reasoning, a Chiefs field goal (+390) could be a smarter play than an Eagles FG (+385). A safety (+3300) is also in play for either team as these clubs ranked one-two in regular season sacks.

Largest Points Lead of Game

Over 14.5 points | -110 |
Under 14.5 points | -120 |
Blowout potential?
Philadelphia is currently a 1-point favorite after being favored by 2.5 points earlier in the week. Either way, it’s a far cry from the 14.5 over/under for largest points lead of the game. Only two Super Bowl winners in the past 10 years defeated their opponents by more than 14.5 points. So, why is that the magic number with the matchup is expected to be close?
Well, the Super Bowl has produced some epic comebacks over the past half century or so. Down 28-3 with 8:31 to go in the third quarter, the Patriots downed the Falcons 34-28 seven years ago. New England also rallied from 10 points back against Seattle in Super Bowl 49. And, in 2009, the Saints did the same versus Indianapolis. All that said, 14.5 points is a lot. Especially since KC was just blown out 31-9 two years ago by the Bucs. Take the UNDER.

Highest Scoring Quarter

First Quarter | +650 |
Second Quarter | +180 |
Third Quarter | +600 |
Fourth Quarter | +160 |
2 or More Quarters to have equal highest score | +700 |
Explaining the odds
Philadelphia and Kansas City are expected to combined for the most points in the fourth quarter (+160) and second quarter (+180). Why are the odds so much longer for the first quarter (+650) and third quarter (+600), you ask? Well, teams have the opportunity to start those quarters with the ball deep in their opponent’s territory. Whereas, both the first and third quarters start with a kickoff that usually pins them inside their own 30-yard line.

However, here’s why betting on the second quarter (+180) isn’t a bad idea. One, more points are tallied in the first half than the second, on average,. This is because teams often run out the clock in the fourth quarter when protecting a lead.
And, secondly, the Eagles scored a league-leading 12.18 points per game in the second frame with the Chiefs in third with a 10.12 average. It was the highest-scoring quarter for both teams by a mile.
