Geoff JohnsonThe Philadelphia Eagles received devastating news as wide receiver Jeremy Maclin tore his right ACL during Saturday’s practice, and will lose the rest of the season.
Maclin had 69 receptions for 857 yards last season with 7 touchdowns. He was the best receiver in the group in 2012.
“He’s a great player. He’s done some great things for this organization,” DeSean Jackson said to Eagles official side. “Hopefully it’s not too bad, so he can get back out here and play for us this year. Any time a player goes down on a stretcher and things like that, you definitely have to be concerned. Until we know further, just going to have to keep praying for him and hope he’s all right.”
The injury happened during 7-on-7 drills in the early part of camp as players are still practicing in no-contact drills without pads. “He just came off the line of scrimmage, and his knee buckled a little bit,” Jackson added. “It’s an unfortunate situation”.
Maclin was the Eagles first round pick in 2013, and he has team-high 258 receptions over the last four seasons.
Head coach Chip Kelly was counting on Maclin to be an every down receiver, and have Jackson to run the deep-routes in the new offense.
The Eagles will start the season on a Monday night game against the Redskins; Philadelphia is four point dogs for the matchup.
Also, they are listed 13/4 to win the NFC East, behind the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys and 5/2 to even make the playoffs.
