With one of 18 football Sundays in the books, there has already been wild swings in the race, with quarterbacks rising and falling up and down the board.
One thing that has remained constant, however – Patrick Mahomes (+425) is still the favorite to capture his second-career Most Valuable Player award after throwing for 337 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in Kansas City’s 33-29 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

NFL MVP Risers after Week 1
Tom Brady (+750) is immortal. It’s why we recommended the 44-year-old at +1400 just last week. The three-time NFL MVP threw for 379 yards and four scores in a 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, orchestrating his 49th game-winning drive during the fourth-quarter or overtime; good for third on the all-time list behind Peyton Manning (54) and Drew Brees (53).
Kyler Murray (+1100) also made an appearance on last week’s list of best bets at +1800. The human-highlight-reel passed for 289 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-13 spanking of the Titans, adding another score on the ground. While the defensive competition will only get tougher from here, Kyler looks poised to be a fantasy football MVP at the very least.

Jameis Winston (+1400) ate a W in his season debut for the Saints, tossing five touchdowns despite passing for only 148 yards. Most importantly, the NFL’s first and only member of the 30 TD – 30 INT club threw no picks in New Orleans’ 38-3 beatdown of the Packers. While we can’t recommend Famous Jameis in good faith, betting on Sean Payton to win Coach of the Year (+1000 at BetOnline) seems like a sound business decision.
Falling down the board
Aaron Rodgers (+2200) saw his MVP odds tumble from +1200 last week after putting up an epic stink bomb against the Saints: 15-of-28 passing for 133 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. The 35-point loss is the worst of the Rodgers era in Green Bay and just the third time the 37-year-old threw multiple interceptions and no touchdowns in a game in his 16-year career. This sure feels like karma after Rodgers wasted everyone’s time with high-school girl offseason antics.
Josh Allen (+1400) regression watch is officially on. After making major improvements to his accuracy last season, the fourth-year QB struggled in a 23-16 loss to the Steelers, completing 30 of a career-high 51 passes for 270 yards and a TD as his offensive line struggled to block the Pittsburgh pass rush. With no semblance of a run game in Buffalo, Allen is a decent buy at +1400 as the Bills will continue to be one of the most pass happy clubs in the league.
