Who can take Donald’s DPOY?

Aaron Donald (+450) generated an NFL-high 76 quarterback pressures last season, including playoffs, and finished second in sacks with 13.5. Donald’s 85.5 career sacks rank third-most in a player’s first seven seasons since the NFL began tracking individual sacks in 1982. Aside from voter fatigue, the only case against him winning another DPOY is that his defensive coordinator Brandon Staley is now coaching the Chargers.

TJ Watt (+900) was edged out by Donald in the vote (27-20) in 2020 despite leading the NFL in both sacks (15) and tackles for loss (23).

Fellow three-time DPOY winner JJ Watt (+2800) was none too pleased after his brother didn’t win the award, saying, “TJ played 1 less game and STILL led the NFL in every major category.”

Speaking of brotherly love, Nick and Joey Bosa are both at +1200. According to Next Gen Stats, Joey was the second-most disruptive player last year, only behind T.J. Watt, and in 2021 the elder Bosa will be coached Staley, who was credited for moving Donald around the formation to get advantageous matchups.

Myles Garrett’s a top contender

After testing positive for COVID-19 last November, Myles Garrett (+550) said he was operating at 50 percent and that fatigue kept him from being at his best for extended periods of time. The Browns defensive end still had an All-Pro 12-sack campaign, and his current average of 0.83 sacks per game over his first four NFL seasons is tied for the second-highest rate in history, just behind Reggie White (0.85).

Cleveland should be in Super Bowl contention this year after general manager Andrew Berry added talent to his defense in free agency and the NFL Draft.  If the moves work out, the 25-year-old will have an excellent shot at unseating Donald for the DPOY.

Devin White (+2500) played a major role in the Buccaneers’ Lombardi trophy with 38 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries in three playoff games. Luke Kuechly was the last inside linebacker to win the award in 2013, but the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft is only going to get better in his third year.
