The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NY Jets clash in week one in a game thatβs doesnβt seem as one of the best to watch, but because of the QB saga in New York it one worth following.Β The game is Sunday at 1 PM ET at Metlife Stadium.
The Jets decided to name Geno Smith as the starter QB for week one; they basically got stuck with him after Mark Sanchez injured his shoulder in week three of the preseason.
“We’re having a competition between quarterbacks and that competition isn’t finished,” owner Woody Johnson said.
“We’re very comfortable with Geno,” coach Rex Ryan said. “As an organization, we’re confident Geno will help us get the job done.”
The Jets also have Matt Simms and newly signed Brady Quinn on the roster; you know, just in case.
New York will face a familiar player in Darrelle Revis.Β The cornerback said heβs willing to help the Bucs defense giving tips about his old team.
“It’s just one of those things, when a player comes from another team, [offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan] is asking a couple of questions about [the Jets’] defense and what are the base calls, I spill them,” Revis said. “I’ll spill the beans and let him know what we used to run and let him know what things Coach [Rex] Ryan might do. It’s almost like stealing a little bit. That’s what you’ve got to do. You take the information and pass it to the offensive coordinator.”
The stage is set for Geno Smith, either to become the Jets starting quarterback for the rest of the season, or to throw his first pick to Revis.
The Bucs are 3.5 favorites for this one, despite they are playing away from home.
