Patrick Mahomes Injury Update: Chiefs QB Out for Season With ACL Tear

The Chiefs of Kansas City have seen their season take a dive. On Sunday, Andy Reid’s players took on the Chargers of Los Angeles in a game they had to win to keep their postseason hopes alive. In the end, the Chargers posted a win, but that wasn’t the main story. Nope, everyone is down in the dumps with the Patrick Mahomes injury update: the Chiefs QB is out for the season with an ACL tear.

In the second half of the game, Mahomes was able to extend a play, but he planted his leg awkwardly and he fell to the turf in a ton of pain. He was down on the ground and he just couldn’t get up right away. He was able to limp off the field, needing the help of trainers. He has since been diagnosed with his torn ACL, meaning he’s out for the season. This changes everything for Kansas City.

“Don’t know why this had to happen,” Mahomes posted on Twitter after he suffered his season-ending injury. “And not going to lie it hurts. But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I will be back stronger than ever.”

Patrick Mahomes is out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL

When Mahomes got hurt on Sunday, it was a huge issue for the Kansas City offense. Quarterback Gardner Minshew is the backup, but he threw an interception late in the game trying to hit Travis Kelce, a star tight end for the team. Once this happened, it locked the win for the Chargers of LA and it eliminated the Chiefs from the playoffs.

Before the season even started, the best sports betting sites had given the Chiefs incredible odds to win the Super Bowl this season. No one ever imagined that Kansas City would be 6-8 after 14 games and in third place of the AFC West standings. To make matters worse, Mahomes is out for the year and he’ll have to have surgery soon.

After he undergoes that surgery, there will be more of a timeframe for when he’ll be able to get back on the field and throw the ball around. For now, it’s up in the air if he’ll be ready for Week 1 next September, which will impact the team’s NFL betting odds for 2026.

Kansas City has won two of the last three Super Bowl titles, but this Mahomes news has come at the worst time possible. It’s unknown when he’ll be able to play again, which is disappointing for the fanbase, especially with no postseason on the way.
