Mad Mac

Twitter lip readers were called into action last Thursday night, trying to decipher what Mac Jones was yelling at Matt Patricia on the sidelines. The sophomore quarterback confirmed it was, “Throw the f—–g ball! F—–g quick game sucks! F–k!,” the morning after the 24-10 defeat to the Bills.

Coming off a season-best 382 passing yards and 2 TDs against Minnesota the previous week, Jones was held to just 195 yards and a score in Week 13. It was yet another dispiriting performance for a Patriots offense that ranks 20th in points per game (20.75).

Patriots’ offensive woes

New England is tied for last in the league in red zone efficiency, with just 12 TDs in 32 trips inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. According to ESPN, they also rank near the bottom of the NFL in first downs (28th), third-down efficiency (25th), sacks per pass play (25th) and interception percentage (25th).

The only good news is their Week 14 opponent ranks second-last in points-allowed per game (26.8). Arizona is also  bottom-ten in passing yards allowed per game (245.4).

Cardinals vs Patriots

Arizona is a 2-point home underdog at State Farm Stadium on Monday night. The team’s coming off a Week 13 bye, but New England is also well-rested after playing on Thursday night last week. Despite signing a contract extension in the offseason, Kliff Kingsbury is likely coaching for his job over the next five games.

At the very least, ownership will want to see major improvement from the Cardinals’ league-average offense. Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown are healthy and playing together for only the second game all season. However, the Patriots have a top-ten defense in passing yards allowed (200.6) and points allowed (18.8) per game.

Best Bet

Oddmakers have set the over-under at just 44 points. But, given Arizona’s plethora of offensive weapons and weak pass defense, both teams should be able to move the ball. Especially if Kingsbury schemes up some running plays for Kyler Murray.

New England has already lost three primetime games this season. And their only victories over opponents with winning records both came against the Zach Wilson-led Jets. We’ll take the Cardinals moneyline (+109) and the OVER.

Final Score Prediction: Arizona 27, Patriots 24
