Raiders suddenly on a roll

Expectations were sky-high for the Raiders heading into the year. Coming off a playoff berth, the team hired “offensive genius” Josh McDaniels and brought in Davante Adams to catch passes from his buddy Derek Carr. However, the 2022 season started with a string of one-score losses to the Chargers, Cardinals, Titans and Chiefs. Things only turned uglier from there as Las Vegas fell to the Saints, Jaguars and, gulp, Jeff Saturday’s Colts.

Suddenly, pundits were wondering whether owner Mark Davis had the funds to fire McDaniels after only one year on the sidelines? Or if Carr would be traded in the summer? But, as always, things change fast in the NFL. The Silver & Black are riding a three-game unbeaten streak with winnable games upcoming against the Rams, Patriots and Steelers.

Rams circle the drain

While the Raiders have rallied, things have only gotten worse for the defending Super Bowl champs. The Rams are 3-9 following Sunday’s 27-23 loss to the Seahawks – the team’s sixth-consecutive defeat. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp are out for the year. Aaron Donald will miss the next couple weeks at least. Oh, and the Detroit Lions own their first-overall pick.

All eyes will be on Sean McVay this offseason as he decides whether to undergo an impossible rebuild or bail for a high-paying job in the broadcast booth.

Rams vs Raiders

The Raiders are favored by six points in SoFi Stadium and the over-under is set at 44 points. Even though Jalen Ramsey is among the few stars still suiting up for LA, both DK Metcalf (8 receptions, 127 yards, TD) and Tyler Lockett (9 receptions, 128 yards, TD) lit the Rams secondary up in Week 13. Davante Adams is likely licking his chops after putting up 177 yards and two scores in Las Vegas’ 27-20 triumph over the Chargers.

Raheem Morris’ defense has been far better against the run in 2022. They are one of only four NFL teams allowing less than 100 rushing yards per game this season. However, Josh Jacobs is on absolute heater, leading the league with 1,303 rushing yards.

Best Bet

It’s hard to see a Rams defense without Aaron Donald stopping Jacobs. One week after piling up 300 yards and two TDs in an overtime win over Seattle, the contract-year back ran for another 144 yards and a score on Sunday.

With their offense finally clicking on all cylinders, the Raiders should cruise against the reigning Super Bowl champs.

Final Score Prediction: Las Vegas 30, Rams 17
