- BetOnline does not have the Rams (+850) as Super Bowl favorites following Sunday’s impressive win against Tampa Bay (+600)
- The Bills (+950) have registered back-to-back blowout victories after stumbling against the Steelers in Week 1
- Cleveland (+1200) and San Francisco (+1600) will face stiff tests in the coming weeks
You can’t accuse oddsmakers of being over-reactive prisoners of the moment. Despite sitting in last place in the AFC West with a 1-2 record, the Kansas City Chiefs are still co-favored to win the Super Bowl along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were also handily defeated in Week 3 of the NFL season.

Why aren’t the Rams favored?
Sean McVay spent all offseason drooling over the thought of Matthew Stafford commanding his offense and the early returns haven’t disappointed. Finally freed from the Detroit Lions (the NFL franchise equivalent of playing for Adam Gase), the 33-year-old has 942 passing yards, 9 touchdowns and 1 interception in three wins with a 129.8 passer rating and an extremely pleased Cooper Kupp.
So, why are the Rams (+850) behind both the 1-2 Chiefs (+600) and the Buccaneers (+600)? The answer is probably their tough NFC West division. With two games on tap with the undefeated Cardinals (+2500) and Seahawks (+3300), Los Angeles can’t let up after their 34-24 victory over Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Matthew Stafford’s season stats…
• 66 for 94 (70.2%)
• 942 pass yards
• 314 YPG, 10.0 YPA
• 9 TDs – 1 INT
• 129.8 passer rating#Rams pic.twitter.com/VPBiXqgfo8— NFL Stats (@NFL_Stats) September 27, 2021
If you believe in the Bills (+950), it’s time to circle the wagons and place your bets. Buffalo has an excellent opportunity to score their third-straight blowout this Sunday with a sweetheart matchup against the Texans before heading to Kansas City in the Week 5 Sunday Nighter to avenge their AFC Championship Game loss.
With Sean McDermott’s pass rush looking much improved and Patrick Mahomes seeming increasingly mortal, Josh Allen and the Bills could be viewed as the clear AFC favorite a fortnight from now.
Teams with tough schedules
Cleveland Browns (+1200). Hold off on betting on Baker Mayfield and company just yet. While Myles Garrett and the defense dominated the Bears in Week 3, sacking Justin Field nine times in a 26-6 win, Cleveland is set to face the Vikings and Chargers on the road before hosting the Cardinals and Broncos. With tough games on tap, the Browns could become a better bargain over the next month.
San Francisco 49ers (+1600). A 30-28 loss to the Packers on Sunday night lengthened the club’s Super Bowl odds from +1100 last week. but Kyle Shanahan’s club could fall further with games against the divisional-rival Seahawks and Cardinals coming up. If Jimmy Garoppolo struggles over the next couple weeks, look for rookie Trey Lance to replace him after the Niners’ Week 6 bye.

Panthers remain a strong buy
Chances are Sam Darnold doesn’t win the Super Bowl this season, but there’s a lot to like about Carolina (+6000). After allowing a total of 30 points during their 3-0 start to the season, the Panthers acquired cornerback CJ Henderson, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, from the Jaguars on Monday.
The 22-year-old will form a ferocious tandem with No. 8 overall pick in the 2021 draft, Jaycee Horn, once he returns from a broken foot. Matt Rhule’s offense is also loaded at the skill positions with D.J. Moore, rookie Terrace Marshall, Robby Anderson and Christian McCaffrey, who should return from a hamstring injury in a couple weeks.
