Week 13 of the NFL Thursday Night Football schedule saw the Dallas Cowboys defeat the New Orleans Saints. In Week 14 of the 2021 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers head to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Pittsburgh (6-5-1) is coming off a Sunday night win over the Baltimore Ravens. Minnesota (5-7) is on a two-game losing skid after the team dropped a 29-27 game to the Detroit Lions in their most recent outing.

The outlook for this game changed on Sunday after the Steelers came out and defeated the favored Ravens and the favored Vikings lost to the previously winless Detroit Lions. With the way these two teams played on Sunday, the Steelers will get a few more looks than they would have before Week 13 came to a close. The Minnesota loss has put a lot of pressure on the team’s head coach, Mike Zimmer.

The Vikings defense and coaching failed in a big way on Sunday. Minnesota had a 27-23 lead with 1:50 left in the game. The club then allowed the Lions to go 75-yard down the field to win the game. The Vikings blitzed only once during that 14-play drive. No team has allowed more points in the final two minutes of a half this season than the Vikings have at 101. If the Vikings allow six more points at the end of a half this season, the team will tie its own record of 107 points allowed, which it set in 2020.
The Vikings failing defense will be a concern against the Steelers. Pittsburgh was down 10-3 heading into the fourth quarter against Baltimore and turned that deficit into a 20-19 win. If Pittsburgh can come out of the gate against the Vikings the way the team closed out the game against Baltimore, they have a good chance to get the victory on Thursday night.

Pick Minnesota to win. The Vikings defense was bad on Sunday, but I don’t expect the Vikings D to play as poorly against the Steelers. I think the team approaches this game with renewed vigor. Expect the Vikings to see the Detroit loss as if the effort was the club’s “rock bottom” moment.
