Super Bowl 55 Odds Update With NFL Training Camps Set To Begin

  • The Chiefs (+650) and Ravens (+700) remain the heavy favorites to win Super Bowl 55
  • The Patriots (+2000) are an incredible value after adding Cam Newton on the cheap
  • The Steelers (+2200) and Seahawks (+2200) could contend in their respective conferences if everything breaks right

With training camps set to begin across the league, it’s still anyone’s guess if the NFL season will start on Thursday, September 10th as planned, as star players such as Drew Brees, J.J. Watt, Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson continue to voice concerns over COVID-19 safety.

While most teams’ rosters have been set in stone since the NFL Draft, one notable exception is the Patriots, who brought in former MVP quarterback Cam Newton on a bargain-basement deal.

Let’s review the latest Super Bowl odds to see which clubs oddsmakers have sweetened on over the summer.

PATRIOTS REMAIN A VALUE

Perhaps oddsmakers don’t follow Newton’s Instagram account, because they seem unswayed by his weekly barrage of workout/hype videos. Following Cam’s arrival in New England, the team’s odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy have only made a modest jump from +2500 to +2000.

But while the Patriots are bereft of skill-position talent, the 31-year-old superstar has proven both in college and the pros that he doesn’t need much help to put up points.

Now ultra-motivated and paired with Bill Belichick and one of the game’s top offensive minds in Josh McDaniels, expect Cam’s second act to be equally as glorious as his first.

+2000 is incredible value for a franchise that has won three of the past six Super Bowls and still plays in a division with the Jets and Dolphins.

CONTENDERS RISE UP THE BOARD

Equally loaded on offense, New Orleans (+1000) and Dallas’ (+1600) have both seen their odds to win the Super Bowl improve over the summer, but Green Bay and Indianapolis have experienced the biggest upward spikes, with each going from +3300 to +2000.

After drafting running back Jonathan Taylor and receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in the second round, the Colts and their mauling offensive line could be contenders if father-of-nine Philip Rivers has anything left in the tank, but it’s hard to have much optimism for a Packers team that has assembled little help around fading legend Aaron Rodgers.

If you’re looking for longshots, our best bets are the same as they were back in February. The Steelers (+2200) have young stars on all levels of their defense and just need a healthy Ben Roethlisberger to unlock an offense that was torpedoed by backups last season.

The Seahawks’ (+2200) defense is nothing close to the old Legion of Boom days, but with the second-best QB in the NFL in Russell Wilson, nothing is impossible.

With improvement from sophomore wideout D.K. Metcalf and a stronger commitment to throwing the ball from the coaching staff, Seattle has a shot to win the Super Bowl.
