Updated Super Bowl 56 Futures Following Week 1 of NFL Season

  • BetOnline favors the Chiefs (+500) and Buccaneers (+550 to face off in a Super Bowl rematch
  • All four NFC West teams could make the playoffs after a dominant 4-0 showing in Week 1
  • The Super Bowl will be played on Feb.13, 2022 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California

Week 1 of the NFL season is wonderful as it takes a sledgehammer to all the well-worn preseason narratives and reminds us all that we know almost nothing about how the year will play out.

It’s also a tricky time as we have to evaluate how much stock to put in one week of football action, especially when half the league is no longer playing their starters in the preseason.

With all that said, let’s look at how Super Bowl odds reacted to the first Sunday of the NFL season. Before we check out the updated board, here’s where you can get tips and advice on betting on NFL football games.

Surging up the board

The Chiefs (+500) and Buccaneers (+550) maintained their Super Bowl favorite status with hard-fought Week 1 victories over the Browns (+1600) and Cowboys (+3500), respectively. Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay’s teams also leapt into the top five as the 49ers (+1200) and Rams (+1200) had their way with the Lions (+25000) and Bears (+8000).

Two other NFC West clubs, Seattle (+1800) and Arizona (+3300), seem like values in comparison. Both franchises’ title odds have shortened since last week, but considering that Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray are much better than their counterparts on the West Coast, these teams still feel undervalued.

Just like the Cardinals, New Orleans was featured as one of our Super Bowl sleepers at +3500 before the season. And after embarrassing Aaron Rodgers and company on Sunday, Sean Payton and the Saints (+2000) have put the NFL on notice that they’re still a championship contender minus Drew Brees.

The Chargers (+2800) and Steelers (+2800) shortened their odds with victories over the Washington Football Team (+6600) and Buffalo (+1400). Left for dead by pundits in the offseason, Pittsburgh’s 23-16 road triumph over Josh Allen and the Bills was among the most impressive of Week 1, but oddsmakers are taking a cautious approach after the Steelers fell apart down the stretch last season.

Contenders that lost in Week 1

It’s no time to panic for the Bills (+1400), who still have the fifth best odds to win the Lombardi Trophy. Let’s see if Buffalo can run the table against Miami. Washington and Houston in advance of their AFC Championship Game rematch with Kansas City in Week 5.

Things are considerably uglier in Green Bay (+1800) after Aaron Rodgers put together one of the worst performances of his entire career (15 of 28 for 133 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions) against New Orleans. The Packers should have no trouble rebounding against the Lions in Week 2, but stiff tests against the 49ers and Steelers lie just ahead of them

Oddsmakers didn’t ding Cleveland (+1600) too much for their 33-29 Week 1 loss to the Chiefs and nor should they have. While it would have been nice to see a little defensive improvement from last season, the Browns’ offensive formula from last year (powerhouse offensive line and run game) should help them roll over their next three opponents (Houston, Chicago, Minnesota).
Don’t write off Baker Mayfield and the Browns yet.
