- Bovada and BetOnline‘s odds to win Super Bowl MVP favor Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (+100)
- Tom Brady (+225) is looking for his 7th career championship and fifth Super Bowl MVP
- Buccaneers’ edge rushers Shaquil Barrett (+5000) and Jason Pierre-Paul (+10000) are interesting longshots in Todd Bowles’ blitz-happy defense
With the Kansas City Chiefs opening as 3.5-point favorites against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it makes perfect sense that last year’s Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes is even-odds chalk (+100) to claim the trophy again given that quarterbacks have won 10 of the past 14 awards.

TOM BRADY VS. PATRICK MAHOMES
Tom Brady has hoisted four Super Bowl MVPs in his 21 seasons in the NFL and has +225 odds to add to his trophy case on Sunday, February 7th in the friendly home confines of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Considering all the 43-year-old has accomplished in his unparalleled career, it’s almost hard to bet against him at this point.
Brady has lost out on the Super Bowl MVP award in two of his six career Super Bowl triumphs – in Super Bowl 39 when receiver Deion Branch made 11 catches for 133 yards and, most recently, in Super Bowl 53 when he was held to 262 passing yards, no touchdowns and an interception in a mind-numbingly boring 13-3 victory over the Rams. However, Brady performed much better in the preceding game, the 2019 AFC Championship, throwing for 348 yards, a score and two picks in the Patriots’ 37-31 win over the Chiefs; his last playoff duel with Mahomes.
The last playoff matchup between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes was epic.

Patrick Mahomes passed for 295 yards and three TDs in that 2019 AFC Championship Game and was even better against the Buccaneers in their Week 11 matchup this season, throwing for 462 yards and three scores. Given that speedy receiver Tyreek Hill accounted for 269 of those yards and all three TDs, he’s worth a big game MVP bet at +1200 at Bovada.
LONGSHOT MVP BETS
A running back hasn’t claimed a Super Bowl MVP in almost a quarter-century (the Broncos’ Terrell Davis in Super Bowl 32), but Leonard Fournette (+3300 at BetOnline) winning the award would almost be the perfect way to cap off what has been a strange 2020 football season. “Playoff Lenny” has scored a touchdown in all three of Tampa’s postseason victories, rumbling for 313 total yards, and now faces a weak Kansas City run defense.
Tyrann Mathieu is available at +4000 at BetOnline and could score a pick-six if Brady is playing from behind and as reckless as he was against the Packers in throwing three interceptions. And, with Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher out for the year, you can’t dismiss either of the Buccaneers’ edge rushers after Shaquil Barrett (+5000) and Jason Pierre-Paul (+10000 on Bovada) combined for five sacks on Aaron Rodgers on Sunday.
