The New England Patriots looked anything but flawless in week one, but they still won.Β The NY Jets didnβt look completely inept in week one, and they managed to get a last second win. Pats and Jets meet for the first time this season on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium at 8:25 PM ET to open week 2.
New England is adjusting their new offense to guys Tom Brady hasnβt played with before.Β The quarterback threw for 288 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT in the 23-21 victory over Buffalo last Sunday.
“I didn’t have a lot of doubt,” Brady said, referring to the final drive. “We’ve got a team full of fighters. There’s going to be some ugly wins, but we’re always going to fight until the end.”
Shane Vereen played a great game running for 101 yards on 14 carries, but after the game the Patriots said he broke a bone in his left wrist. Vereen will miss at least four weeks, a source told the Boston Herald.
βHeβs one of the best players that we had (Sunday),β running back Legarrette Blount said. βHeβs one of the best players on this team, and we showed it and losing him is going to hurt a lot. Weβre going to have some guys step up and try to fill his role.β
The Jets beat the Bucs 18-17 in Geno Smithβs debut.Β They were lucky at the end, but they pulled an unexpected win.
“Man, oh man,” coach Rex Ryan said. “We talk about a resilient group, and we certainly have it. We fought all the way to the end. One team, one fight, well, there it is.
“Holy cow. Man, I mean, we’ll take it. There’s no question.”
The NY Jets are 12.5 points dogs going into Gillette Stadium.Β The Jets have lost the last four games they played against New England (NY 1-3 ATS).
