Updated Super Bowl Odds After Week 8: Steelers Stay Undefeated

STEELERS UNSTOPPABLE?

As there is now only one playoff bye up for grabs under the NFL’s new 14-team playoff format, the Steelers have plenty of incentive to stay ahead of the one-loss Chiefs (+350), who travel to Tampa Bay (+600) for an enormous Week 12 tilt.

The Seahawks (+800) rebounded nicely from their 37-34 OT loss to the Cardinals in Week 7, delivering a 37-27 spanking of a injury-riddled 49ers (+3500) team that may now be without Jimmy Garappolo and George Kittle for the rest of the season.

Given the MVP play of Russell Wilson and the ascendance of DK Metcalf into the league’s next great receiver, Seattle remains my favorite play on the board.

Green Bay (+1200) looks severely overvalued after the 2-5 Vikings (+10000) handed Aaron Rodgers and company their second loss in three games, as does New Orleans (+1400). The Saints barely outlasted the Bears for a 26-23 OT win that served as a reminder for how hard it’s going to be for Drew Brees to win a road game in January.

OTHER NOTABLE DEVELOPMENTS

The Bills (+2500) were the beneficiary of a Cam Newton fumble in the waning seconds of a 24-21 victory over the Patriots (+8000), however, look nothing like the offensive juggernaut they were back when Josh Allen was picking up early-season MVP buzz.

Philip Rivers threw three touchdowns in a 41-21 Colts (+2500) win over the always-disappointing Lions (+12500), but Indianapolis now enters a rough patch in their schedule with contests against Baltimore, Tennessee, Green Bay and Tennessee (again!) in their next four games.

Speaking of the Titans (+2800), they were upset 31-20 by the Bengals (+150000) in Week 8 as their pass rush couldn’t get any pressure against Joe Burrow despite the Cincinnati offensive line missing four starters.

Philadelphia (+4000) is in the driver’s seat to win the NFC East and grab a spot in the postseason after an unimpressive win over a banged up Cowboys (+15000) squad quarterbacked by soon-to-be-busboy Ben DiNucci, but Carson Wentz’s head-scratching downhill trajectory makes the Eagles impossible to bet on.
