Updated Super Bowl Odds Following Week 7: Buccaneers Move Into Top 3

  • BetOnline has updated Super Bowl odds for all 32 NFL teams following Week 7
  • The Buccaneers’ odds  to win the Lombardi Trophy (+750) now trail only the Chiefs (+350) and Ravens (+650)
  • Kyler Murray’s star performance on Sunday Night Football has shortened the Cardinals’ odds to +2500

Is it possible that even with six Super Bowl rings we were still all underrating Tom Brady? On the same week the Patriots dropped their third-straight game in humiliating fashion, Tampa Bay’s 43-year-old quarterback threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns in 42-20 win over the Raiders.

Brady’s fourth strike, the 559th TD of his career, also moved him past Drew Brees for first place on the NFL’s all-time touchdown passes list, providing yet another reminder that perhaps it was Bill Belichick that always needed him, rather than the other way around.

Let’s see where the Buccaneers fall on BetOnline‘s updated board following all the Week 7 action.

MOVING UP THE BOARD

After rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran all over Buffalo in Week 6, it was Kansas City’s defense and special teams that took over against the Broncos on Sunday, scoring a pair of touchdowns. In fact, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs (+350) didn’t pick up a third down all day against Vic Fangio’s defense, and yet somehow still came out of Denver with a 43-16 win.

While something seems missing from KC’s prolific attack this season, the Buccaneers (+750) appear to be just warming up. Rob Gronkowski scored his second touchdown in as many games and Leonard Fournette accounted for almost 100 total yards in his return from injury.

With Antonio Brown back as early as Week 9, Tampa Bay’s offense could soon be as dominant as its NFL-best defense. It’s almost hard to believe the Bucs’ odds to win the Super Bowl were +1600 just two weeks ago.

Impressive prime-time wins over the Cowboys and Seahawks in back-to-back weeks have also shortened the Cardinals‘ odds from +5000 a fortnight ago to +2500 today. After Kyler Murray outdueled fellow short guy Russell Wilson on Sunday night with over 400 total yards and four touchdowns in a 37-34 comeback overtime win, it feels like Arizona could still be underrated if anything.

PITTSBURGH REMAINS UNDEFEATED

At +2200, Pittsburgh was one of our favorite Super Bowl bets entering the season, along with the similarly-priced Seahawks. Following a hard-fought 27-24 victory over the previously-unbeaten Titans (+2200) in Week 7 (thank you Stephen Gostkowski!), Big Ben and the Steelers now have the fourth-best odds to win the Lombardi Trophy at +800.

Our advice is to lay off betting this number as Pittsburgh is headed to Baltimore (+675) in Week 8 to play a rested Ravens team coming off a bye. Should they lose, you might want to jump back in next week as the Steelers will then feast on the Cowboys, Bengals and Jaguars before a return matchup with the Ravens in Week 12.

On the other side of the spectrum is New England (+6600), who unlike past years seem incapable of a miracle turn-around this season.

After being thumped 33-6 by the 49ers for a third-straight loss, the Patriots will now head Buffalo to face the division-leading Bills (+2000) this Sunday in what could be an official passing of the torch in the AFC East.
