Updated 2021 NFL MVP Futures: Tom Brady the new favorite

  • BetOnline favors Tom Brady (+500) to win the 2021 NFL MVP after his scorching hot start to the season
  • Kyler Murray (+650) finished with 400 passing yards, 31 rushing yards and four total touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 34-33 victory over the Vikings.
  • Derek Carr (+2500) is leading the league in passing yards with two impressive wins against the Ravens and Steelers

Nothing satisfies Tom Brady. After moving south and winning a seventh Super Bowl ring with Tampa Bay in 2020, the 44-year-old living legend has already passed for 655 yards and nine touchdowns in the first two games of the season.

Brady is now a +500 favorite to win his fourth-career NFL MVP, moving ahead of Patrick Mahomes (+550) after the Chiefs’ 36-35 loss to the Ravens on Sunday night. Before looking at the rest of the board, here’s where you can get tips and advice on betting on NFL football games.

NFL MVP Risers after Week 2

Tom Brady (+500) was our top recommendation to win NFL MVP at +1400 before the season, but he’s not the best bet at the moment. After beating up on the Cowboys and Falcons at home, Tampa Bay heads to Los Angeles this week to face Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and the Rams before a colossal Week 4 road matchup against Bill Belichick and the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. Get your popcorn ready.

Patrick Mahomes (+550) has a problem. The Chiefs have blown a potential dynasty by drafting Mecole Hardman and Clyde Edwards-Helaire over DK Metcalf and Jonathan Taylor in successive years and now have a one-note offense far too reliant on Travis Kelce and Mecole Hardman.

Kyler Murray (+650) is a fantasy football cheat code. Through two games, the 24-year-old ranks second in the NFL in passing yardage (689) and passing touchdowns (7) with 51 yards and two scores on the ground. With a game against the Jaguars on tap, his MVP odds will only be shorter next week.

Russell Wilson (+1000) posted 343 yards and two TDs, but his Seahawks offense collapsed in the second-half of a 33-30 OT loss to the Titans. Dak Prescott (+1200) delivered a ho-hum performance against the Chargers (237 yards, no TDs, one INT), but at least his Cowboys got the win. And, Josh Allen (+1200) passed for 179 yards, two scores and a pick in an easy 35-0 victory over the Dolphins.

Others to monitor

Matthew Stafford (+1200) hasn’t exactly spread the ball around in his first two games with the Rams, connecting with Cooper Kupp for 271 yards and three touchdowns. With the Buccaneers, Cardinals and Seahawks on deck, the 33-year-old is primed to make a big move up or down the board over the next few weeks.

Lamar Jackson (+1400) ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs on Sunday night to topple Mahomes for the first time in four career tries. While the Ravens likely won’t win enough games to make Lamar a true award contender, the 2019 NFL MVP will be given full credit for any success Baltimore has this season after a series of injuries decimated their backfield.

Derek Carr (+2500) is back in the MVP conversation (well, kinda) after finishing third in award voting in 2016. Leading his Raiders to back-to-back wins over the Ravens and Steelers to open the season, Carr has a league-best 817 passing yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

While the 30-year-old is admittedly a longshot for the award at this point, his candidacy could pick up more steam with a home win versus the Dolphins this Sunday.
