PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS
Jon Gruden fired defensive coordinator Paul Guenther after his unit gave up 44 points in a Week 14 defeat to the Colts. With three losses in their last four times out, the 7-6 Raiders will now have to run the table against the Chargers, Dolphins, and Broncos to make the playoffs.
Given the circumstances, Las Vegas should have more urgency than Los Angeles on Thursday night, but we believe the Bolts’ 20-17 victory over the Falcons will provide a shot in the arm after a miserable season filled with agonizing losses. Chargers (+3.5 at Bovada)

At 8-5, the Dolphins also have to win out to earn a postseason berth. Unfortunately, injuries and the COVID list have wiped out their entire running back room and receiving corps. New England’s offense has looked downright ugly all year, but given that Bill Belichick’s defense will have had 10 days to prepare for this one, we expect the Pats to play spoiler to Miami for a change. Patriots (+1.0 and +105 money line at BetOnline)
After their Chase Young-led defense forced eight turnovers in the past four games (all wins), Washington is now in the driver’s seat in the NFC East. Coach of the Year frontrunner Ron Rivera is reportedly optimistic that Alex Smith will suit up this week despite leaving Sunday’s contest with a calf injury, but there is a chance that Dwayne Haskins starts at quarterback. That reason alone is worth betting on Russell Wilson’s Seahawks covering the six points. Seattle (-6.0 at Bovada)
GAME OF THE WEEK
Prior to their surprising 24-21 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday, the Saints had won five straight while allowing a total of 44 points (quick math: that’s under nine per game), so they certainly have the defense to slow down Patrick Mahomes, who’s coming off an uncharacteristic three-interception performance against Miami.
However, Mahomes is 3-0 in indoor starts for his career with a 91.8 passer rating and Kansas City has won 22 of its past 23, postseason included. Billed as a potential Super Bowl preview, it’s difficult to see Taysom Hill scoring enough points to keep up with the Chiefs superstar. Especially when another subpar performance by Mahomes could swing the MVP race to Aaron Rodgers. Chiefs (-3.0 at BetOnline)
