- Prediction: Avalanche to defeat Golden Knights
The Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights tied for the most points in the NHL last season with 82. The Avalanche took home the Presidents’ Trophy for the best record in the league thanks to the club notching one more home win than Vegas.
The teams met in the second round of the playoffs last season. The Golden Knights won that series 4-2. Both teams are expected to contend for the Stanley Cup this season as well.
The Avalanche and Golden Knights face off for the first time this season on Tuesday in Denver.

Colorado Avalanche Analysis
The Colorado Avalanche opened the 2021-22 season with a win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The team then went on a three-game losing skid. Colorado ended that rough patch on Saturday with a 4-2 shootout win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Avalanche defense did not do well during the losing skid. Colorado gave up 15 goals during that stretch. The fewest goals the team has surrendered this season came in the season opener when Chicago, who has a current record of 0-5-1, scored twice. Colorado needs to play a better defensive game.
Despite their poor defense, Colorado has played well on the offensive side of the ice and that bodes well for them against the Golden Knights.

Vegas Golden Knights Analysis
Vegas opened their season with a 4-3 win over the Seattle Kraken and then proceeded to lose its next four games. The win over Seattle remains the team’s only victory this season. The Golden Knights scored four goals in that game. Since then, the team has not scored more than three goals in a game. The club’s opponents have outscored Vegas 16-6 during its losing skid and they are coming off a 2-0 shutout loss to the New York Islanders on Sunday.
The Golden Knights have not played well this season. Several injuries to high-impact players, such as Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone, are not helping the team in any way.

Our Final Pick
While neither of these teams has looked incredible this season, it’s hard to bet against Colorado in this game. They will have all the momentum coming off their win over the Lightning. The team will also have much more confidence than Vegas.
Vegas has yet to score a power play goal this season and the team’s goals against is also one of the highest in the league. Only two teams averaged fewer goals per game than Vegas.
With the injuries the Golden Knights have and the inability for the team to gel with the players who are on the ice, I expect the Avalanche to hand Vegas another loss on Tuesday.
