Maple Leafs vs Hurricanes
Erik Kallgren recorded a shutout in his first start for Toronto on Tuesday, making 35 saves in a 4-0 win over the Stars. The rookie temporarily quieted concerns about his team’s goaltending, but it will quickly become a talking point again if former Leafs netminder Frederik Anderson continues his hot play against his old team on Thursday night. The Maple Leafs will also be without the NHL’s top goalscorer as Auston Matthews serves the second of his two-game suspension for cross-checking.
Final score prediction: Hurricanes 4, Leafs 2

Rangers vs Islanders
Vezina frontrunner Igor Shesterkin will be back between the pipes for the battle of New York after taking a rest day in the Rangers’ 4-3 OT victory over the Ducks on Tuesday. That’s bad news for an Islanders club that ranks last in the Eastern Conference with 29.5 shots per game. Look for the Russian netminder to rebound from his last two performances where he uncharacteristically allowed eight goals on 50 shots.
Final score prediction: Rangers 3, Islanders 1
Blues vs Penguins
Pittsburgh is an NHL-best 19-7-4 away from home and they’ll need to bring their best versus a Blues squad with an impressive 20-7-3 record on home ice. The Penguins registered an impressive victory over the Metropolitan-leading Hurricanes on Sunday before a 4-1 letdown against the Predators on Tuesday, while St. Louis is a shaky 2-4 in their past six. Expect a close, hard-fought game.
Final score prediction: Pittsburgh 3, St. Louis 2 OT

Oilers vs Sabres
All of a sudden, things are trending up in Edmonton. Thanks to three straight wins and the demise of the Golden Knights, the Oilers are holding down the last playoff spot in the Pacific with games in hand. With seven goals in his past 10 games, Connor McDavid has a one-point lead in the league’s scoring race. The Sabres are just 9-16-4 on the road, so look for the Oilers to stay hot on home ice.
Final score prediction: Oilers 6, Sabres 3
Golden Knights vs Panthers
Call it the Jack Eichel effect. As soon as the supposed superstar hit the ice, the Golden Knights started tumbling down the standings. Vegas will look to end their five-game skid versus one of the NHL’s top teams. Led by Jonathan Huberdeau, whose 84 points put him just one back of McDavid in the scoring race, Florida is 15-7-6 in road games while VGK is a mediocre 16-13-3. The Panthers will come out roaring on Thursday.
Final score prediction: Panthers 5, Vegas 3
