With the All-Star Game in the rear-view mirror and the NHL Trade Deadline still over a month away, it’s time to look at the updated 2022 Stanley Cup Futures and make our picks.
The Colorado Avalanche are heavy +450 favorites to hoist Lord Stanley despite failing to advance past the second-round of the playoffs in the Nathan MacKinnon era. Can last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winners finally figure it out in the postseason?

The Big Five
Following a recent 10-game winning streak, the Avalanche (+450) once again have the NHL’s best record despite MacKinnon missing a third of the season. Colorado is getting a career-year out of Nazem Kadri and defenseman Cale Makar has continued his ascension in year two, but the Kuemper/Francouz platoon in net could spell trouble in the playoffs.
Atop the league’s scoring leaders, Jonathan Huberdeau has the Panthers (+750) in the top spot in the East, but Florida will have to go through the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning (+800) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (+950) just to get out of the second round.

The Hurricanes (+900) have failed to advance past round two since their Eastern Conference Finals berth in 2019, but Rod Brind’Amour continues to get the most out of his young, talented club. If former Leaf Frederik Andersen can keep up his Vezina-quality play in the postseason, Carolina could make some noise.
Best Longshot Bets
Pittsburgh Penguins (+1200). Tristan Jarry is hard to trust in net after his first-round meltdown versus the Islanders last year, but everything else checks out. Mike Sullivan’s team is near the top of the Metropolitan despite having the third-most points lost in the standings due to injuries.
With excellent depth and veteran stars like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jeff Carter ready to make one final push, the Pens should at least advance past round one for the first time since their last Cup win in 2017.

Minnesota Wild (+1600). Kirill Kaprizov is one of the most exciting players in the league – and the rest of the no-name roster isn’t too shabby either. Dean Evason’s club is tied for fifth in the NHL in goal-differential (+39) and have games in hand on most of the league.
Calgary Flames (+1600). Pending free agent Johnny Gaudreau continues to light the lamp, Matthew Tkachuk is as hard to play against as ever, and they have multiple blueliners jumping in on the action. Darryl Sutter always seems to get his teams ready for playoff hockey as well. The Flames could surprise Vegas in the Pacific come the postseason.
