The NHL is taking a break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, with hostilities set to resume on Saturday, February 22nd. The pause in action has allowed us to take stock and examine the season’s progress.
All four divisions have been exciting, and all for different reasons.
In the Atlantic Division, the Florida Panthers have taken over the lead at the top. Although, the Maple Leafs have matches in hand which will see them go into a one-point lead if they win them both.
The Washington Capitals are the surprise runaway leaders in the Metropolitan Division. Despite holding a 10-point lead over the Hurricanes, the Capitals seem to be underappreciated by the best NHL betting sites for the postseason.
The same seems to be happening in the Central Division, where the Winnipeg Jets hold a nine-point lead over the Dallas Stars.
This leaves the Pacific Division, which is seeing one of the most hotly contested championship races with the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights slugging it out to win the regular season.
Betting to win the Pacific Division
The best NHL betting online sites have been behind the Edmonton Oilers all season.
Kris Knoblauch’s team came within a whisker of winning the 2024 Stanley Cup. As a result, the Oilers started the current season as one of the betting favorites to win the Pacific Division and the Stanley Cup, and they’ve remained one of the favorites ever since.
The Oilers trailed the Golden Knights in the Pacific Division for the majority of the season. When they took over the top spot in late January, it was the first time that Edmonton had led the division since 2021.
It was short-lived, with the Golden Knights immediately taking back the top spot.
The two teams have been closely matched since, and the lead has been traded. Despite the closeness, the betting sites have the Edmonton Oilers at -160 to win the division.
The Golden Knights are second in the betting at +250. For the record, the Vancouver Canucks are +6500.

Edmonton Oilers -160
The Edmonton Oilers have an overall record of 34-17-4. They have a goal differential of +30. Edmonton has scored 182 goals and conceded 152.
At Rogers Place, the Oilers have an 18-10-2 record. On the road, Edmonton is 16-7-2.
The Oilers have been in reasonable form of late. They are 5-4-1 in their last ten.
Leading the way is Leon Draisaitl. The 29-year-old German center has 40 goals and 83 points in 55 matches. Draisaitl is the highest goalscorer in the NHL.
As expected, Connor McDavid has also chipped in with a significant contribution. The captain of the Oilers has 71 points from his 49 matches. McDavid has also contributed 22 goals.
BetUS has the Oilers at -125 to score under 107.5 points this season and -105 to score over 107.5 points.
Vegas Golden Knights +250
The Vegas Golden Knights have probably already exceeded expectations this season.
Bruce Cassidy’s team has a 33-17-6 record. The Golden Knights have a goal differential of +30 (the same as the Oilers). Vegas has scored 185 and conceded 155.
Vegas has a strong home record of 19-6-3. They are 14-11-3 on the road. The Golden Knights clearly prefer their home comforts above their road trips.
In their last ten matches the Golden Knights are 4-3-3. When they resume their season against the Canucks on Saturday, Vegas will be on a two-match winning streak after finishing with wins on the road over the Devils (3-1) and the Bruins (4-3).
BetUS has Vegas at -115 to score over 103.5 points in the regular season and -115 to finish with less than 103.5.
Best bets
Both teams have very similar records. The main difference is the away form.
Edmonton has played two matches more than the Golden Knights have at home. That should favor Vegas in the run-in, but with the Oilers having a better record on the road than at home, it probably strengthens the case for a bet on the Oilers to win the division.
Edmonton’s home form does raise doubts about their suitability to win the Stanley Cup this year – they are the +650 favorites. They have the form on the road to do it. But they need to step it up at Rogers Place if they are to go the distance in the postseason.
Despite this, we see the Oilers proving too strong for the Golden Knights in the regular season.
