The Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights clash at Rogers Place on Wednesday night. Read on for our NHL betting picks on the match.

The big picture

The 2024 Stanley Cup runners-up face the 2023 champions when the Oilers host the Golden Knights at Rogers Place on Wednesday evening.

Two Pacific Division rivals, the Oilers and the Golden Knights have both had mixed starts to their respective seasons.

The Oilers have a 1-1-0 Pacific Division record and a 6-6-1 overall record. They already have a -10 scoring differential after just 13 matches, allowing 41 goals while scoring 31.

The Golden Knights have a 4-1-0 record in the Pacific Division and an overall record of 8-3-1. Their goal differential is +17. Vegas has scored 54 and conceded 37.

The Golden Knights are top of the Pacific Division at the time of writing (it may be the Kings by the time Vegas plays), so on the surface of things, all looks good. But scratch a little deeper, and the reason why we are saying it is a mixed start to the season is because on the road they are 0-3-1.

Furthermore, the Golden Knights are the only team in the NHL without a road trip win this season. It might only be four games in but runs like this can become a problem if they aren’t quickly put to bed.

Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy knows this as well as anybody and will be looking for his team to end this winless streak when the puck drops on Wednesday night.

Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers started the season as many people’s favorites to win the 2025 Stanley Cup.

Oilers’ head coach Kris Knoblauch led his team to the final of the 2024 Stanley Cup. His team fell just short, losing 4-3 in an epic series against the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers are the blueprint for the Oilers to follow. They reached the 2023 final, before losing – somewhat ironically – to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Panthers did the dummy run in 2022/23 and went back the following year and got the job done. Kris Knoblauch is hoping to repeat that this season with the Oilers.

Despite their disappointing 6-6-1 start to the season, the Oilers are still the +750 betting favorites to win the 2025 Stanley Cup. To win the Western Conference, Edmonton is +375, and to win the Pacific Division, the Oilers are the +180 favorites.

In their most recent outing, the Oilers went down 3-0 at home to the New Jersey Devils on Monday. The defeat ended a two-match winning run.

Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights are +1500 to win the 2025 Stanley Cup. That puts them just inside the top ten teams in the betting.

To win the Western Conference, Vegas is fourth-favorite at +750. And to win the Pacific Division, Bruce Cassidy’s team is second-favorite at +200.

At their T-Mobile Arena home, the Golden Knights are 8-0-0. There is nothing wrong with that form. But on the road, they are 0-3-1. The Golden Knights have let leads slip in two games and have been outscored 18-11.

The Golden Knights’ most recent result was a 4-3 overtime win against Utah at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. They were well beaten (6-3) in their previous match away to the LA Kings on Wednesday (Oct 30).

Edmonton Oilers vs. Vegas Golden Knights Betting Picks and Predictions

The Oilers look like they will have to make do without Connor McDavid. Their star man injured an ankle in their 6-1 loss to the Columbus New Jackets on October 28th.

There have been noises that the Oilers captain could return sooner than expected. But that is still not likely to be in time to face the Golden Knights.

Can the Golden Knights take advantage of this and record their first road trip win this season? Well, if they are to win, they need to replicate their home form. But that’s easier said than done.

In both teams’ last ten, they are both 6-3-1. The Golden Knights have given up three goals a game in that run. We feel that is a recipe for defeat.

A win for the Oilers on the money line is our betting pick.
