- Prediction: Flyers to beat Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs started the 2021-22 NHL season on the wrong foot. The Leafs went 2-4-1 in their first seven games. A 3-2 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks served as a turning point for the club. That victory launched the team on a five-game winning streak. That run came to a close on Monday with a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. The Leafs head to Philly with a 7-5-1 record on the season.
Philadelphia has struggled with momentum early in the season. The Flyers are 6-2-2 and have yet to win more than two games in a row. Philly enters Wednesday’s game against the Leafs coming off a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Toronto Maple Leafs Analysis
Offense was hard to find for Toronto at the start of the season. During the team’s first seven games, Toronto was outscored 23-11. Things have turned around for the club in its past six games where the Leafs have put the puck in the net 19 times and held their opponents to 14 goals.
Mitch Marner has come alive for the Leafs. The defenseman has garnered 11 points (3G, 8A) in the team’s past five games. John Tavares has also found his scoring touch in the past five games, scoring five of his team leading seven goals on the season during that stretch of games.

The Leafs starting goaltender, Jack Campbell, has one of the best goals against averages in the league this season at 2.09. His save percentage of .929 is also close to the top of the NHL goalie stats.
Philadelphia Flyers Analysis
The Flyers are in the middle of the pack as far as scoring this season with 32 goals, but the club’s defense has saved them, as they have allowed 24 goals on the year, which is third fewest in the NHL. Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux are leading the team in scoring, both forwards have scored five goals and seven assists. Giroux has played well against the Leafs. He has scored 36 points in 37 career games against Toronto..926

Flyers goalie Carter Hart does not have the stats of his Toronto counterpart, but he’s not far off. Hart has a .926 SV% and a 2.41 GAA.
MyTopSportsbook’s Final Pick
The Maple Leafs have not been great on the road this season and the Flyers have played well at home. Toronto is 1-3-0 in away games, while Philadelphia is 3-1-1 at home.
One concern for the Leafs is that Tavares suffered an undisclosed injury on Monday. Tavares will be a game-time decision. It’s safe to say that even if Tavares plays against the Flyers that he’ll be less than 100 percent.
This should be an evenly matched game, but I think the Flyers will be able to exploit the defense of the Leafs and come away with the win in this one. I don’t see a high scoring affair, but I see the Flyers moving to 4-1-1 on home ice on Wednesday night.
