Bruins vs Leafs
The Bruins and Leafs hold an identical 41-19-5 record with 17 games left in the regular season. Both clubs picked up a veteran blueliner at the deadline with Don Sweeney trading for Hampus Lindholm and Kyle Dubas grabbing Mark Giordano. Boston has the second-best record in the NHL (27-9-3) since the New Year, but Toronto has the league’s leading goal-scorer (48) in Auston Matthews. Whatever happens here, these two squads could meet in the first round for the fourth time in the past decade, with the B’s having eliminated Canada’s team in 2013, 2018, and 2019.
Final score prediction: Bruins 4, Leafs 3
Most goals within a player's first 60 games of a season (since 1995):
57- Mario Lemieux (1995-96)
52- Jaromir Jagr ('95-96)
51- Alexander Mogilny ('95-96)
48- Auston Matthews (2021-22 via his empty netter in a 5-2 @MapleLeafs win vs FLA earlier tonight)

Penguins vs Rangers
Pittsburgh hopes to even score with the Rangers after Gerard Gallant’s club handed them an ugly 5-1 loss on Friday. The question is if the Penguins have any more goals left in the tank after destroying Detroit 11-2 on Sunday. New York has won four of their past five and Vezina-lock Igor Shesterkin will be between the pipes. This Metropolitan matchup is a preview for their first-round series a month from now, with both franchises looking to make a statement.
Final score prediction: Rangers 3, Penguins 2 OT
Flames vs Avalanche
While the Stanley Cup Playoffs almost never go as planned, this would be the Western Conference Semifinal everyone wants to see. Colorado shut out Calgary 3-0 a couple of weeks back, but the Flames scored a 4-3 OT victory earlier this month. Heading into the rubber match in Cowtown, both clubs are 6-3-1 in their past ten games. Look for Johnny Gaudreau to stay red-hot after registering five assists in a Battle of Alberta win on Saturday night. He leads the Flames with 90 points, emerging as top five Hart Trophy contenders.
Final score prediction: Calgary 5, Colorado 4

Hurricanes vs Lightning
The Lightning are bunched up with the Leafs and Bruins in the Atlantic and could end up facing the Hurricanes in round one if they fall to the bottom of their division. Carolina edged Tampa 3-2 last week to end a four-game slide and have picked up three of four points in their two games since. Meanwhile, the Lightning have won two of three since the last matchup in Raleigh. Rod Brind’Amour’s club put up seven goals on Saturday but previously had notched under three in nine of their past ten games. Expect a low-scoring slugfest.
Final score prediction: Lightning 2, Hurricanes 0
