Geoff JohnsonThe New York Rangers suffered quite a bit to get their first win of the playoffs, but they are now one game away from tying the series against the Washington Capitals. Game four will be Wednesday at 7:30 PM ET at Madison Square Garden.
“It’s a good group of guys,” Rangers coach John Tortorella said. “It’s just trying to get momentum on your side and finding a way to win the hockey game. We got it done.”
The momentum was always on the Rangers side as they constantly had the lead in the game, but had a hard time closing the deal. “It was an interesting game,” Rangers Derek Stepan said. “The flows of it were up and down. Early lead, they tie it. We get another one, they tie it. As a team we just stuck together. On the bench everyone had a good feeling”.
Washington was able to beat New York by two goals in game one, but after that it was as close as expected. “We’ll regroup here,” Capitals Mike Green said. “It’s obviously disappointing, but that’s why it’s seven games. It’s unfortunate. We wanted to be up three, but we’ve got a lot of work to do, and we know that”.
From the last 10 games between these two franchises, only one have gone OVER the total; it was game three of this series, five UNDER and four push.
The Capitals had a huge chance of to tie the game late as they were 6-4 on the field, but couldn’t get it done. “You don’t have a lot of chances to play 6-on-4,” playmaker Alex Ovechkin said. “It’s a totally different picture out there. It’s a situation where you have to find the shooting lane and shoot it.”
