  • When: Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. EST
  • Where: Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Canada

Wednesday night will feature a matchup between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators. The Rangers will travel up across the border into Ottawa for the Eastern Conference matchup. The Rangers have been slumping of late but will look to turn things around with a win over the Senators, who find themselves dead last in the Atlantic Division. With both teams in dire need of a win, this matchup should offer plenty of intriguing betting opportunities.

We’re going to make some Rangers vs. Senators picks, but before diving in, make sure to check out our NHL betting guide, and our hockey how-to betting guide both of which have loads of useful information.

Rangers vs. Senators Odds

Rangers-1.5 (+185)-125O 6.5 (-105)
Senators+1.5 (-225)+105U 6.5 (-115)

Heading into the matchup, it’s the visiting Rangers who are considered favorites over the Senators, but there’s not much separating the two teams. The Senators (+105) are slight underdogs on their home ice against the Rangers (-125) but the spread of Senators +1.5 (-225) indicates that a close game is anticipated by the books. The total is set at 6.5 goals but is leaning slightly towards the under (-115).

Rangers Best Bets

The Rangers have not been at their best of late, losing each of their last three games while sinking to fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. At 10-9-4 on the year, the Rangers have endured a brutal month of November which has seen them post a 5-8 record. They’ll hope to turn things around with a win on Wednesday in a matchup against the Senators, who have also gotten off to a slow start this year.

The Rangers have struggled on both ends of the ice lately, but overall, the offense has been lacking. With just 69 goals in 23 games, the Rangers are averaging 3.0 goals per game. That ranks 19th of the 32 teams, but is far below where the Rangers would like to be as they aim to make another deep playoff run. They’ve conceded 67 goals this season, 2.91 per game, which also ranks in the middle of the pack.

Igor Shesterkin hasn’t been his usual self of late, and was critical of his own play after the Rangers’ latest loss vs. the Devils. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner, Shesterkin conceded five goals against the Devils, and has surrendered 2.58 goals per game this year, up from a league-best 2.07 in 2021-22. During their recent three-game losing streak, the Rangers have been close in each game, losing two games by a one-goal margin and falling to the Devils 5-3.

While they’re keeping games close, they just haven’t been getting enough out of the offense to put them over the top. The offense hasn’t scored more than three goals in any of the last three games, and have topped that margin in just one of their last six games. Despite that, they have gone over the total of 6.5 in three of their last four games. I’m banking on the Rangers to snap their losing streak on the road on Wednesday with a win vs the Senators. Rangers ML (-125) is the pick.

Senators Best Bets

The Senators are the bottom feeders of the Atlantic Division thus far into the year, but there’s reason to believe they can turn things around. While Alex DeBrincat is off to something of a slow start, Brady Tkachuk has been excellent. Still, at 8-12-1, the Senators haven’t found much success despite bringing in DeBrincat and Claude Giroux, among others, this offseason.

The Senators’ offense hasn’t been able to register nearly the amount of goals they’d been hoping for this year. With 66 goals in 21 games, the Senators are still averaging more goals per game than the Rangers at 3.14, but only just. Defensively, they’ve surrendered 71 goals, allowing 3.38 per game, which ranks in the bottom third of the league.

Despite their poor start, the Senators have rallied for back-to-back wins and could make it three in a row with a win over the Rangers. If they’re going to do that, they need more out of their offense. The Senators have eight goals in their last two games, but prior to that, they were held to just three goals in their previous three games. With Igor Shesterkin due to be in net, the Senators will have to place their shots well to beat the reigning Vezina winner, even if he’s not at his best of late.

Unfortunately, I don’t envision the Senators having much success against Shesterkin. After putting up just one goal against the Devils, Sharks, and Golden Knights, none of whom have goaltenders on the same level as Shesterkin, it could be difficult for the Senators to get much out of their already-struggling offense. Because of that, I’m taking the under in this game. The pick here is Total Goals Under 6.5 (-115).
