Updated NHL Division Odds and Picks: East and West Still Up For Grabs

  • Bovada and BetOnline have updated NHL Division Odds after Tuesday night’s action
  • The Capitals (-125) are favored in the East despite being two points behind Pittsburgh (+125) in the standings
  • Colorado (-120) is a slight favorite over Las Vegas (-110) in the West with only a few games left in the season

While the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes look to have the North and Central all but wrapped up, two NHL divisional battles are going down to the wire with only a handful of regular season games to play until the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Let’s look at the latest odds in the East and West after Tuesday night’s action, and be sure to check out our NHL betting tips page for tips and advice on how to wager on hockey.

2021 NHL East Division Odds

Washington Capitals-125-135
Pittsburgh Penguins+125+135
Boston Bruins+850+950

Capitals, Penguins and Bruins

The Penguins (+125) are two points ahead of Washington in the East after Sidney Crosby scored two goals in a 7-3 victory over Philadelphia last night. Pittsburgh only has two games left in the regular season, but lucky for them both are home dates against the putrid Buffalo Sabres. Assuming they capture all four points, the Capitals (-125) would need three regulation wins in their remaining four games to tie the Pens and win the division tiebreaker.

Washington will play New York tonight in a matchup that’s sure to have fireworks after the Rangers criticized Caps hitman Tom Wilson and player safety head George Parros in a scathing statement.  They then have two home dates against the Flyers before wrapping up with what could be a critical final game against the Bruins (+850) next Tuesday.

Boston sits four points back of the division-leading Penguins with two games in hand after a 4-3 overtime-loss to New Jersey yesterday. To capture the division, the Bruins would need to win their four remaining games  (NYR, NYR, NYI, @WSH) and hope Pittsburgh secures no more than three points in their upcoming games against Buffalo. Bruce Cassidy’s club would also need Washington to falter down the stretch.

As we recommended last week, we believe the Penguins (+125) are the best bet to claim the NHL’s East Division.

2021 NHL West Division Odds

BetOnlineBovada
Colorado Avalanche-120-120
Vegas Golden Knights-110-110

Golden Knights and Avalanche

Back in April, we recommended the Golden Knights at +225 to win the West, taking advantage of the Avalanche’s unfortunate bout with COVID-19 protocols, and now the division looks like it could go either way with Colorado (-120) sitting just two points back of Las Vegas (-110) with a game in hand. Since defeating the Avs last Wednesday, Peter DeBoer’s club has squandered their divisional lead with two losses in their past three. Four of their five remaining games also come against playoff-bound teams.

Colorado was predictably sluggish out of protocols, dropping three of four. However, Jared Bednar has rallied his troops to three straight wins. Better yet, the Avalanche get to play the bottom-dwelling Kings and Sharks in five of their six remaining games. While the other one is against the Golden Knights next Monday, we think a soft schedule will carry the Avs to the division crown.
