You’ll likely recognize one of the betting favorites to win, Eileen Gu. She’s been in the headlines a lot recently. Less so for becoming the youngest freestyle skiing gold medalist in Olympics history when she won the women’s freeski big air days ago. More so for being raised in the United States, but choosing to represent China at the Olympics instead (both her parents are Chinese). In today’s extremely political world, that identification drew praise and ire on both sides of the political aisle.
The 18-year-old Gu will face stiff competition in this event from 19-year-old Kelly Sildaru, who fails from Estonia. The two teens have duked it out at the X-Games before, but an Olympic face-off sets the table for a rivalry that could dominate the women’s sport for years to come.
Either one of the two wouldn’t be a bad bet, but our confidence is a tad stronger in Sildaru right now. While Gu is new to the limelight — and the good and bad things that come with it — Sildaru has “been there, done that.” At the mere age of 13, Sildaru became the youngest X Games gold medalist ever. An ACL injury ruined her chances at competing at the 2018 Olympics, but no such thing exists now. We expect her to seize the moment and capture gold in a thrilling battle with Gu.
Men’s Slalom Skiing Pick
Unlike the previous competition, this next one isn’t nearly as competitive, well, at least not in the eyes of top Olympic betting sites. Swiss alpine skier Marco Odermatt is the overwhelming favorite to take the gold in the giant slalom. Here are the current betting odds:

The 24-year-old Odermatt is a legit threat to medal in three different skiing events in Beijing — giant slalom, super-G and downhill. However, the giant slalom is probably his biggest specialty. This season alone, Odermatt has won four of the five World Cup races in the slalom. That sheer dominance justifies his current -105 betting line to take home the gold.
Given all the momentum, Odermatt is a no-brainer bet here. In fact, we’re surprised his betting line is a modest -105 (almost even money). That’s value given how he’s fared in World Cup events. Hammer this bet and squeeze every last value of of the line!

Here at the Olympics, Ragetti is favored to win, while Hall is runner-up in the odds. But look at the disconnect with Moffatt of Canada. Fresh off a second-place finish at this same event in the X Games, his odds for Beijing are very long at +1200. That is pure value for an accomplished skier like Moffatt — and it’s worth placing a bet on since it’s a low-risk, high-reward scenario.
