So far in the 2022 Six Nations, France has two wins from two. They are odds on betting favorites to win the competition, but can France complete the Six Nations Grand Slam and win the competition in style?
At the moment France is -175 to win the competition outright. Ireland is next at +333 and then comes England at +550.

To win the Grand Slam, only France can now do this, and they are +150. There are also odds of -190 available on there being No Grand Slam in 2022.
So can France do it? Well before we answer that, let’s take a look at what the Grand Slam is in Rugby Union’s Six Nations.

What Is The Grand Slam in Rugby Union Six Nations?
For those not familiar with this. The premier international rugby tournament in the northern hemisphere is the Six Nations.
All six countries taking part play each other once, a total of five matches each.
Winning all five matches is called the Grand Slam. It’s not unheard of, but it is a feat only achieved every few years.
The last time France pulled it off was in 2010, which was also the last time Les Bleus won the Six Nations.
And after the first two fixtures of this year’s competition, I really don’t see any reason why they won’t do it again in 2022.

Six Nations 2022; What’s The Story So Far?
France has won two from two. In week 1, they comfortably dismantled Italy. But everybody is expected to beat the Italians, and if Italy doesn’t lose 5 from 5 it will be a major shock.
In week 2, the French took on the Irish in Paris (last Saturday), arguably the hardest opponents they are going to face in this year’s Six Nations, and beat them 30-24.
I wouldn’t say they beat the Irish in style, but they did enough to get over the line.
What’s Next For France?
The truth is, three winnable, but very tricky matches – starting away to Scotland!
Scotland Away
The Six Nations takes a week off after Match 2, so this gives all sides the chance to recover. When they do return the following Saturday, the French will be given a stern test against Scotland in Edinburgh.
- Where; Murrayfield Edinburgh, Stadium, Scotland
- When; Saturday, February 26th, 2022
- Time; 9.15 am ET
Two weeks ago, I thought this fixture was a really tough one on paper for the French.
Scotland had just beaten England at Murrayfield, and as I pointed out in my 2022 Six Nations betting picks, Scotland was my dark horse to win the title this year….. If they could string a run of results together.
Unfortunately, Scotland couldn’t do that. After beating England, they then went and lost a tight game to Wales in Cardiff, one that was winnable, but the sort of match you need to win if you are serious about winning the Six Nations.
The Scots will be up for this match, unfortunately I don’t think that will be enough to stop France.
Wales Away
Two weeks after the Scotland match, France will face another tricky encounter with Wales in Cardiff.
- Where; Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales
- When; Friday, March 11th, 2022
- Time; 3 pm ET
This match looked more winnable for France before Wales beat the Scots. The Welsh defeating Scotland puts a slightly different complexion on things now. Maybe Wales has been underestimated in this year’s Six Nations?
Well, a quick look back at how bad Wales were away to Ireland on the opening weekend would suggest not. The Welsh were awful, losing 29-7.
Going in the French team’s favor here is that we’re not sure how many times in this championship the Welsh side will be able to lift themselves.
They did it against Scotland, but I feel they will struggle to reach those levels against France.
And although I expect Wales to turn up and compete, I can only see France winning this one.

England Home
The final match of the 2022 Six Nations for France is at home to England. If the Six Nations title and the Grand Slam both depend on the outcome of this match, then what a spectacle this will be.
- Where; Stade de France, Paris, France
- When; Saturday, March 19th, 2022
- Time; 3 pm ET
If England can win their next two matches against Wales and Ireland (both at home), then this match will decide who wins the Six Nations.
Can England raise their game and win in Paris? Given the current developments of both respective sides, I would have to say no, France should win.
But could the added pressure of a first Six Nations crown in 12 years for France, along with the fact that they should be winning the competition as part of their growth towards the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, be too much for the hosts?
It could well be. But I think that the French roared on by a home crowd may be too much for England to handle, and they should be able to get the job done.
