The Bundesliga this weekend sees the legendary Bayern Munich up against Bayer Leverkusen as they attempt to put the latest upstarts in German soccer back in their place!
So far this season Leverkusen has matched Munich point for point. Only goal difference separates the two sides.
It all comes to a head this Sunday when the two sides meet at the BayArena when the Bundesliga resumes in Germany. Get prepared by checking out our full soccer betting guide.

At things stand, Bayern sits top of the Bundesliga table with 16 points from seven matches.
The champions have won five, drawn one, and lost one.
Right on their coattails sits Bayer Leverkusen. They have an identical win/draw/loss record but an inferior goal difference.
And that’s what separates the two sides.
It’s still very early in the German season, and as yet, the top sportsbooks don’t see Leverkusen as a real threat to Bayern.
In the latest betting to win the Bundesliga, Bayern is a massive favorite at just -600. Leverkusen is available to bet on at +1500.

This weekend will be a real test for Bayer Leverkusen. Are they serious contenders to Bayern’s Bundesliga crown? Or are they just a team who have strung together a few decent results, but will fall away?
Sunday’s match will go some way to giving us the answers. Here’s all the match details, followed by both team’s form and the latest betting odds.
Match Details
- Match – Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern Munich | German Bundesliga
- Venue – BayArena, Leverkusen, Germany
- Date – Sunday, October 17th, 2021
- Time – 9.30am ET
Bayer Leverkusen Form
Gerardo Seoane and his Bayer Leverkusen have been the surprise outfit so far in the Bundesliga this season.
Last season they finished in a disappointing sixth position. They were always struggling to get near the top four, but a sloppy finish to the campaign ensured it would be Europa League football this year.
Yes, they’re expected to challenge for the Top 4 this season. But after seven matches, they’re neck and neck with Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
So far this season, Seoane’s team has won five, drawn one, and lost one. They have a goal difference of +13.
The solitary defeat of the season came at home to Borussia Dortmund back in Matchweek 4. On that day, they succumbed to a brace from Dortmund’s star striker Erling Haaland.
A fate suffered by many Bundesliga teams already.

Going into Sunday’s match, Leverkusen has won their last three Bundesliga matches. If you include their two Europa League wins, Leverkusen have now won fives fixtures in a row.
A run like that ensures they should go into Sunday’s contest high in confidence.
Bayern Munich Form
Bayern has a new manager in charge this season, not that you would know it, as results haven’t changed one bit.

Julian Nagelsmann‘s team started the season with a 1-1 draw away to Borussia Monchengladbach.
They then went a five-match winning run, which only ended when they were unexpectedly beaten 2-1 at home by Eintracht Frankfurt.
Eintracht even had the audacity to come back and win from a goal behind in what was Bayern’s final match before the recent international break.
The stats show it was just one of those fixtures though. Bayern totally dominated the match with 68% and 21 attempts on goal.
The problem was, 10 of those attempts missed the target. Eintracht had five shots at goal and scored twice from the three that hit the target.
Basically, Bayern was too wasteful in front of goal.
Leverkusen v Bayern Munich Betting Odds
What Leverkusen’s league position, and Bayern’s slip-up two weeks ago, has done, is given us something rare – good value odds on a Bayern win!
The defending champions is -160 to win with BetUS. They are usually at short odds such as -500 to win Bundesliga matches.
Moneyline
- Bayer Leverkusen +400
- Draw +360
- Bayern Munich -160
Bayern is the sort of team that when a result is required from them, they get the job done.
I don’t think odds of -160 can be missed, and Bayern Munich to win is my first soccer betting pick for this match.
Over/Under 2.5 Goals Betting
The overs and unders spread isn’t great value here. Bayern matches generally have a lot of goals in them.
- Over 2.5 Goals -350
- Under 2.5 Goals +230
The Bundesliga champions only play one way, and that is outright attacking football. So far this season, they’ve scored 24 goals and conceded 7.
Leverkusen isn’t too far behind them. They have scored 20 and also conceded 7.
This all points to goals, but at -350 I’m not going to be betting on that. I do expect goals, but just don’t see that bet as value.
Both Teams To Score
- BTTS Yes -300
- BTTS No +200
Pretty much the same as above, I expect goals, but there is little value in this market at odds of -300 on both teams to score.
I also can’t back No, as there is a good possibility of both team scoring.
But for a bit of value, and using one of the excellent betting bonuses we have available, I am going to back both teams to score and Bayern to win.
The odds on this market are far more favorable at +130. Therefore if Bayern wins and concedes a goal in the process, we are winners twice.
