Who do Bettors Favor?
A third of the Bundesliga season is over and Bayern are once again the hot favorites with fans looking to make a German football futures bet on the top soccer betting sites. But regular rivals Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to push them all the way and RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and even Freiburg are all still in contention as the season heads into the winter section.
Bundesliga Title Betting
It’s a new season and a new manager but the same old Bayern. The German football juggernauts are bidding for their tenth Bundesliga in a row and are already more than a game in front of their rivals. It hasn’t all been straightforward. They didn’t win any of their four pre-season friendlies and have dropped points to Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach – who also dumped them out of the Cup.
Still, Bayern’s rivals would have been hoping that the transition to Julian Nagelsmann’s complicated tactical schemes would slow them down. It hasn’t really worked like that, and the campaign is proceeding smoothly at home and in the Champions League, where they are already through to the last 16.
Instead, it is Bayern’s rivals who have stumbled. RB Leipzig, under new boss Jesse Marsch, lost three of their first four, which has left them way off the pace, while Dortmund, who also have a new coach in Marco Rose, have already lost three, which may not be a problem in most leagues, but when you are trying to catch Bayern, that leaves very little margin for error.
At their current odds, Bayern make a very little appeal, unless you’re betting with big sums, so realistically you’re looking at Dortmund if you want to oppose them. I prefer to keep my powder dry, however, until the front runners show signs of weakness.
Battle for the Bundesliga Top Four
The Bundesliga title market is often fairly flat by this stage in the season, but the same can’t be said for the Top Four betting options. There’s a relatively consistent top three of Bayern, Dortmund, and RB Leipzig, but Leipzig’s early struggles have potentially opened the door and there could be two places in the top four up for grabs this time around.
Leverkusen, Freiburg, and Wolfsburg are the obvious contenders in this race. Freiburg have surprised everyone with their strong start, and their only defeat so far has come against Bayern. But for all their admirable commitment and team spirit, there have to be significant doubts about their ability to sustain a season-long challenge.
Wolfsburg seem to have recovered from their early autumn wobble, but that run of four consecutive defeats along with a surprise departure from the German Cup and some mixed results in Europe raise questions about their ability to attain the necessary consistency. The same comments could apply to Leverkusen who seem to have lost their way in recent weeks after a promising start.
With potentially two Top Four places up for grabs, it could be worth looking at teams with slightly bigger odds and Borussia Monchengladbach fit the bill.
Bundesliga Relegation Betting
At the other end of the table, it seems that Greuther Furth are already heading for a return to the second tier, having taken only one point from their first 11 games. Which team will join them in automatic relegation and which will end up in the relegation play-off remains to be seen.
FC Koln survived through the relegation playoff last season and were tipped by many to be in the bottom three again this season but they have made a better start than expected, picking up three important home wins and a string of draws, and if they maintain that level of form, they should comfortably avoid the drop.
Arminia Bielefeld look more vulnerable. Having survived narrowly last season, they have made a nightmare start to the campaign and are already in the relegation zone, having only won only once so far. Their inability to find the net is the main problem, and their goals scored a record of 7 in 11 games is the worst in the division. They look a sure bet to go down, but at bigger odds, Augsburg offer more value.
They have pulled off a shock home win against Borussia Monchengladbach but otherwise have been generally poor. They’ve conceded three goals on three separate occasions and have the third-worst goals-against record in the Bundesliga. A recent draw with Bielefeld was also a concern and while there is plenty of time left for them to save themselves, they seem low on confidence at the moment. At +135 for relegation, they look an interesting bet.
