Real Betis is the big favorite against Getafe in La Liga this weekend, but the home side fought well against Barcelona last weekend and can grab a draw against inconsistent opponents here.

Who do Bettors Favor?

Checking out the best-rated online sportsbooks it is not surprising to see that bookmakers have made Real Betis the favorite here. The Seville team is rated as a +160 chance despite being the visiting side, while Getafe is priced at around +210 and the draw is available at +194.

Getafe Focused on La Liga Survival

Getafe emerged with some credit from a narrow 1-0 away loss at Barcelona at the weekend, but the reality is that Quique Sanchez Flores’ team has now lost four in a row. It was also knocked out of the Spanish Cup earlier in January, leaving La Liga survival as the priority.

This is the sixth consecutive season in the top flight for Getafe, but it has been getting closer to the relegation zone over that period and has finished 15th in the last two seasons. After picking up only 17 points so far, it is struggling in 16th position this season, one of six teams separated by only three points at the bottom of the table, although a long way clear of bottom club Elche.

Inconsistency Hindering Real Betis

Real Betis goes into this game only three points off fourth place in La Liga but its attempts to break into the top four are being hindered by a frustrating inconsistency.

That unpredictability was demonstrated again at the weekend when Manuel Pellegrini’s team lost 1-0 in Espanyol, in a disappointing setback that followed penalty-shoot-out losses in the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey: to Barcelona and Osasuna respectively.

Betis is also through to the knockout stages of the Europa League, but it is La Liga that remains the main focus, and in particular the battle for fourth place in the table, which also involves Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and as many as four other clubs. With only one win from its last five league games, however, Pellegrini will be demanding more consistency from his players.

La Liga Betting Head-to-Head

Getafe in its current form was created in 1984 and has spent a lot of its time in the second tier, so this is not one of the oldest rivalries in Spanish football, although the two teams have met fairly regularly over the last 20 years in both the Spanish Cup and La Liga.

Surprisingly, Getafe has had the edge on the head to head record over the last 20 meetings, winning eight times compared to Betis’ seven victories, with five drawn games.

Betis has had the better of the two teams’ most recent meetings, however, winning both games in La Liga last season, by and aggregate of 3-0. The previous fixture this season ended in a 0-0 draw in Seville .

La Liga Betting Team News

The team news for Getafe is positive considering that we are in the second half of a long season. The only confirmed injury absentee is Mauro Arambarri, who has been out with an ankle injury since October. There are a couple of disciplinary issues for coach Flores to be worried about, however, as defender Djene and leading scorer Enes Unal are both one booking away from a suspension.

For Betis, Nabil Fekir is still out with a muscle injury sustained in the middle of the month, and Juan Cruz remains doubtful as he struggles to shake off a hamstring injury.

La Liga Match Betting Pick

Three league defeats in a row for Getafe suggests that it will struggle here against stronger opponents, but that run of form is not as bad as it appears. Getafe was unlucky not to earn a point against Sevilla and Espanyol and held their own against Barcelona at the weekend.

By contrast, Betis has been hard to predict all season. It could be risky to rely on Pellegrini’s team at short odds here, and I think the draw offers the best value in the match betting market.
