Gold Cup Betting – Trinidad, Guatemala Look for Fast Start

Trinidad & Tobago (+170) vs Guatemala (+175), Draw (+200)

Two of the weakest teams in the Gold Cup will open their 2015 tournaments against one another as Trinidad and Tobago faces Guatemala in Group C action tonight at Soldier Field in Chicago (7:00 PM Eastern).

Lumped in with Mexico and Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala are both 9/1 longshots to earn top spot in Group C. Mexico leads the way at 1/6, while the struggling Cubans are a distant fourth at 40/1.

Trinidad and Tobago earned their spot in the tournament after finishing second to Jamaica in the Caribbean Cup.  But the Soca Warriors come into tonight’s game on the heels of two straight losses, including a 3-0 setback against Jordan in an international friendly.

Trinidadian coach Stephen Hart will be looking to his three leaders – Jonathan Glenn, Kadeem Corbin, and Rundell Winchester – to put in a better performance tonight.

“They are three sort of dynamic players that have good pace and energy,” Hart said to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian. “I think both Corbin and Winchester need to learn how to use their qualities better.”

Guatemala, meanwhile, are trying to rebuild after coming up short in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Their quest for a spot at Russia 2018 didn’t get off to a blazing start, but they did manage to move on to the second round of qualification by edging Bermuda 1-0 back in mid-June.

Guatemala qualified for the 2015 Gold Cup by finishing second to Costa Rica in the Central American Cup, but they enter this tournament after getting demolished 4-0 by the US in a friendly.

In the trends, the last three games between these sides have ended in a draw, but they also haven’t met since 2008.  Both teams have more flaws than strengths and another draw – which, by the way, has the best value – looks likely.

Pick: Draw +200.
