Pachuca the Pick in Liga MX

Pachuca are the best pick in Liga MX this weekend as they aim to extend their lead.

Who do Bettors Favor?

Pachuca are still leading Clausura though on goal difference, ahead of Tigres, and the best online sportsbooks rate them as big favorites to beat Juarez this weekend. You can back Pachuca at -125 with most sports betting sites, while the draw is rated at around +245. Juarez are considered to be big underdogs, at around +350, despite having home advantage.

The Clausura State of Play

With just four games to go in the regular season, there is a clear divide at the top and the bottom of the table, with Pachuca and Tigres fighting it out for the lead and Juarez and Mazatlan adrift of the rest. But all of the other 14 teams are still in the race either for a top four or a top twelve position and qualification to the post-season playoffs.

Guadalajara v Monterrey, 2022-04-13

Monterrey have now lost only one of their last eight games and are steadily climbing the table. Although most of their success has come against teams in the bottom half, they have built up some much-needed confidence going into this game. Their most recent win: a 1-0 win over Santos Laguna, was particularly impressive as they were down to 10 men in the last fifteen minutes.

Still, this will be a tough test of their credentials against a solid Guadalajara side that is also in good form. Although they go into this game in 14th position in the table, they have an excellent five-game unbeaten run on their resume, and have matched San Luis, Toluca and Atlas, earning draws in each case. Monterrey will have to work hard here and I’m siding with the draw.

Atlas v Mazatlan, 2022-04-14

Atlas, the reigning Apertura champions have been fighting hard to defend their title and are still looking good for a place in the top four, though they have dropped a few points along the way. Their last three games have seen them lose to Cruz Azul, despite dominating the possession, draw a bad-tempered derby with Guadalajara and grind out a win against lowly Necaxa.

Still, this fixture offers a potentially easier task. Mazatlan are second from bottom of Clausura and haven’t won in eight games. Defensively, they have been showing some signs of improvement and it is fair to point out that their last three defeats have all been by a single goal. But it is hard to see them being able to match Atlas here and a home win looks the wisest pick.

Juarez v Pachuca, 2022-04-15

Bottom of the table takes on the Liga MX front runner in this one-sided-looking fixture, and even the most optimistic of Juarez fans cannot be expecting much from the occasion.

The stats make for grim reading if you are a fan of the home team. Juarez go into this game with the longest winless run in the league of ten games. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in eight games and have lost their last six in a row, the latest defeat coming against Club America, in which they managed only one shot on goal, eventually losing 3-0.

There have been one or two signs of weakness from Pachuca in recent games. They were held to a draw by Tijuana last time and suffered a surprise defeat to Santos Laguna at the start of the month. That might be cause for concern if they were taking on one of Clausura’s better teams, but Juarez are not likely to offer significant opposition, and a win for the league leaders looks assured here.

Leon v Puebla, 2022-04-15

Eighth takes on third in what promises to be a fascinating clash this weekend, and with only four points between them, Leon and Puebla look well-matched.

The home side enjoyed a strong run of form through the middle of Clausura but since their exit from the Champions League have been less consistent, beating Mazatlan, drawing with Queretaro and losing to San Luis at the weekend. Home advantage will be important here, as always, but it is difficult to know what to expect from this team.

The same can be said for the visitors. Their recent games have certainly produced abundant entertainment at an average of 3.1 goals per game during their last eight fixtures, but their return in terms of points has been less impressive. In fact, they go into this game without a win in four, although two of those matches ended in draws. With neither team in top form and the post-season fast approaching, caution may dominate here so the draw looks the best option.
