The final matchweek of the English Premier League before the next international break takes place this weekend, and Manchester City will be looking to finish it with another big win.
City won 1-0 away at Chelsea last Saturday.
FT: Chelsea 0-1 Man City
Man City take the three points thanks to a deflected Gabriel Jesus strike.
Chelsea went the game without a shot on target.

The win put paid to the emerging opinion that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side are the team to beat to win the Premier League. And it also firmly underlined Pep’s Manchester City team as the betting favorites for the title.

Man City | +100 | +100 |
Chelsea | +250 | +275 |
Liverpool | +350 | +350 |
Man Utd | +1000 | +1000 |
Arsenal | +12500 | +10000 |
West Ham | +25000 | +20000 |
Everton | +25000 | +25000 |
Spurs | +25000 | +20000 |
As you can see, City has now gone back to +100 favorites, with Chelsea now pushed back out to +250, where they were a couple of weeks back.
I still think Manchester City is the team to beat, and I am still picking them to win the EPL this season.
Anyway, onto this weekend’s picks, and it’s with the aforementioned Manchester City that we start.
Liverpool v Manchester City Betting Picks
This is the final fixture of the weekend, but as it’s such a huge match it’s the obvious place to start.
- Venue – Anfield Stadium, Liverpool, England
- Date – October 3rd, 2021
- Time – 11.30am ET
How’s your luck if you’re Pep? First, he had to take his side to London to face Chelsea last weekend.
Then on Tuesday, he had to go to Paris to face PSG in the Champions League, and now he finds himself away at Liverpool.
Those are three brutal fixtures, even for a team of Manchester City’s quality.
So far, City have won one and lost one in this trilogy of matches – what chance a draw to finish?
As for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, well they’ve had a decent start to the Premier League.
They will regard last Saturday’s 3-3 draw away to newly-promoted Brentford as 2 points dropped. But they still sit top of the league table, 1 point ahead of Sunday’s opponents.
The top sportsbooks have this match as a close call, with City the slight betting favorites on the Moneyline.
Liverpool is +180, City is +140 and the draw is +250, all with BetUS.
Matches like this are tough to call. Sometimes the big clubs prefer not to lose to their rivals, rather than take chances and end up losing.
But that hasn’t been the case in this fixture over the years.
Last season at Anfield, City ran out convincing 4-1 winners. It has to be said that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were in the middle of an awful run of form at the time. And Liverpool keeper, Alisson played a large helping hand in two of City’s four goals.
The previous season when Liverpool was in a good place, the Reds were 3-1 winners.
This season both teams are going well. I can possibly see the two teams canceling each other out, so I’m thinking that his match will be a draw.
A stalemate also offers the best odds, so at +250 a draw between Liverpool and Manchester City is my first pick.
Chelsea v Southampton
The second match I want to look at involves third-placed Chelsea, who are at home to Southampton FC.
- Venue – Stamford Bridge, London, England
- Date – October 2nd, 2021
- Time – 10am ET
After suffering their first league defeat of the season last weekend, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will know how important it is to bounce back with a win.
There is no reason in the world why they shouldn’t achieve that against winless Southampton FC on Saturday.
The sportsbooks have Chelsea at -300 to win. Southampton FC is +850, and a draw is +360.
The Blues are third in the league table, only behind second-placed Man City on goal difference.
Opponents Southampton sits in 16th place on just 4 points. So far this season Ralf Hasenhuttl’s team has drawn four and lost two. Included in those four draws was a 0-0 draw away to Manchester City, a good result in anybody’s book.
I can’t see Southampton doing in again at Chelsea, and I expect Chelsea to finish this stage of the season strongly.
So my second Premier League betting pick of the weekend is a Chelsea win at -300.
Manchester United v Everton Betting Picks
Finally, we look at Manchester United and the underfire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
- Venue – Old Trafford, Manchester, England
- Date – October 2nd, 2021
- Time – 7.30am ET
The Red Devils host Everton at Old Trafford, and it’s an early start for anybody wishing to watch this one.
United are -200 to win. I’m surprised at this and think these are good odds. For the record, Everton is +550 and the draw is +300.
I can only assume these odds are a result of a couple of dodgy results for United lately.
In their last Premier League outing at Old Trafford, United lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa. They even managed to miss out on the draw with Bruno Fernandes missing a last-minute penalty.
Home defeats don’t happen very often for the Red Devils these days, they are too strong a team.
Odds like this don’t come around very often for the top teams in the Premier League either, and I think it’s well worth having a couple of bucks on United at -200, and I make them my final Premier League pick.
