Barcelona will be looking to continue their seven game unbeaten streak in La Liga on Saturday when they host newcomers Eibar (October 18 at the Nou Camp at 2:00 p.m. Eastern).
The Catalans are the heavy favorites to win, listed at -1000 in the moneyline. An Eibar win will pay +2000 and a draw +1000.
Though Barca is known for their potent offense, which features both Lionel Messi and Neymar, the defense has been equally impressive this year. Barca has yet to concede a goal in the 2014 Spanish season. In their last fixture, they became the first team in La Liga history to post seven successive clean sheets to start a season. This will be Barca’s first ever meeting against Eibar, and Luis Enrique’s team will try to continue their defensive dominance.
The Eibar players know they will be in tough on Saturday. Eibar midfielder Javi Lara, said that the key to the match is not to score the first goal, but to get points from the game, “We are going to try to get points wherever we go. If you score and you lose, there is nothing to be happy. You can keep playing against all the Spanish Liga teams, but if you don’t get points, even without scoring it doesn’t make any difference.”
The Catalans are on top of the league table with 19 points (6W, 0D, 1L) and a +19 goal difference. Eibar is in a respectable ninth position with nine points (2W, 3D, 2L) and a +1 differential.
