The second match of the USA’s October triple-header of world cup qualifiers takes place on Sunday when they travel to Central America to take on Panama.
- Fixture – Panama v USA | CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier
- Venue – Estadio Rommel Fernandez Gutierrez, Panama City, Panama
- Date – October 10th, 2021
- Time – 6pm ET
Both sides will be desperate to win as the battle for places at the 2022 Qatar World Cup betting events really hots up.
The top three from CONCACAF group all automatically qualify to Qatar, with the fourth place team entering a playoff.
The favorites to claim the top three places are the States, Canada, and Mexico.
At the moment the USA looks on course to qualify. But after missing out on Russia in 2018 (the first time since 1986), Gregg Berhalter knows his team can’t afford to be complacent.
Panama v USA Betting
Heading into Sunday’s showdown the hosts are the outsiders. Thomas Christiansen’s Panama team are +425 with BetUS and +400 with Bovada.

The Moneylines suggest that the sportsbooks aren’t expecting a glut of goals in this match.
BetUS has Over 2.5 Goals at +140, with Under 2.5 Goals at -200.
If you’re a fan of the Both Teams To Score market, Yes is +125, with No at -160.
So let’s now take a look at how both teams have performed lately.
Starting with the hosts, and they only last night lost 1-0 away to El Salvador. The defeat leaves them fourth in the group, 1 point behind Canada who occupies the last automatic qualifying position.

Prior to that in the September matches, Panama picked up an impressive 5 points from their three matches.
They opened up with a 0-0 draw at home to Costa Rica.
With 57% possession, 18 attempts on goal (only 2 of which were on target), it must have felt like 2 points dropped for Panama when you consider Costa Rica managed zero attempts on target from their four efforts on goal.
After that, Panama found their shooting boots and beat Jamaica 3-0 in Kingston.
They then followed that up with a 1-1 draw at home to Mexico.
After going 1-0 up in the first half thanks to a Rolando Blackburn goal, the hosts sat back and soaked up the pressure until their Mexican opponents deservedly scored a 76th-minute equalizer through Jesus Manuel Corona.
On Thursday night the USA defeated Jamaica two goals to nil. Ricardo Pepi got both goals in what was a comfortable win for the Stars and Stripes.

In the international triple-header last September, Gregg Berhalter’s team won one and drew two.
The two draws were away to El Salvador (0-0), followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Canada in the big one!
The 4-1 win over Honduras in the third group match was the USA’s first win of the campaign. And would have gone a long way to settling any nerve’s the team may have been showing.
Panama v USA Betting Picks
Right, it’s time for some soccer betting picks, and let’s start with a look at who we think will win the match.
Panama may be looking at this match as a fixture they don’t want to lose. I really can’t see them winning this, but I do feel they will happily take a point.
As for the States, another 3 points here will really put them in the driving seat for a place in Qatar next year.
It’s a two outcome bet for me though, a draw, or the USA win.
USA and the draw in Double Chance betting is -700. While USA to win in the Draw No Bet market is -400.
I think the States will edge this match. I wouldn’t be against siding with them in the Draw No Bet market, but in the 90 minutes betting market the USA to win at -133 with Bovada is my betting pick.
Over 2.5 Goals @ +140 | Under 2.5 Goals @ -200
With the form of Panama in the World Cup Qualifiers, I can see why this market favors Unders.
But go back a couple of months earlier to the CONCACAF Gold Cup group stages, and it was raining goals.
Yes, with Fall upon us, July might seem a long time ago, but back then Panama’s three matches seen a total of 15 goals.
Included was a 3-3 draw with Qatar, a 3-2 defeat to Honduras, and a 3-1 win over Grenada.
It’s fair to say they were different levels of class, but it does show a different side to the Panama team that we have seen so far in the World Cup Qualifiers.
Given that Under 2.5 Goals looks little value at those odds, I’m going to say let’s have a go at winning a few bucks on Over 2.5 Goals.
At odds of +140, I’m having a small wager on Over 2.5 Goals for my betting pick.
What’s Next For These Two Teams?
One more match each for both these teams in this round of fixtures.
Things don’t get any easier for Panama as they travel to Toronto to face Canada on Wednesday evening.
As for the USA, they have a home match against Costa Rica in Colombus at 7pm ET on the same night.
