Kei Nishikori took down the number one player in the world, Novak Djokovic in the semifinals with a 3-1 set victory (6-4, 1-6, 7-6, and 6-3). He’s only 24 years old, and the victory over Nole is the best on his career.

“It’s been really helpful,” said 10th seed Nishikori of tennis expert Michael Chang, who has been giving him some advice. “He’s been helping me a lot from the end of last year, also helping mentally.

“I feel my tennis is changing, a little more aggressive, and I’m playing with more confidence. He’s tough, but I sometimes needed something. Some people can push me well.”

Marin Cilic beat Rodger Federer in the other semifinal; it was his first win over the Swiss in six games.

β€œI’m more surprised with Cilic, to be honest, because he’s older, ’’ Federer said. β€œHe’s been around for longer, but he’s really been able to make a nice transition in the last few years in his game. Whereas with Kei, I always thought unbelievable talent way back when I played with him for the first time when he was 17.’’

Kei Nishikori is listed -130 to win the 2014 US Open and Marin Cilic is -110.Β  The total is at 42.
