Can Nadal win another one?
Working his way back from a rib injury, Rafael Nadal (+175) recently described his body as “an old machine,” indicating that it will take time to start firing on all cylinders again. However, the 35-year-old knows that the French Open, a tournament he has already won a record 13 times, is his best opportunity to win another Grand Slam singles title and further distance himself from Novak Djokovic (+300).

The Serbian missed the Australian Open after refusing to be vaccinated, opening the door for Nadal to move past him on the all-time list with his record 21st major. Still, despite playing in only four tournaments this season, the world No. 1 believes he’s “on a good path” heading into Roland Garros.
Joker has won in Paris twice before, including last year, and should be plenty motivated to dethrone his rival on his favorite surface.
‘Carlos Alcaraz emerges as a favorite
In winning the Madrid Open, Carlos Alcarez (+200) became the youngest player in ATP Tour history to beat three of the top five players at the same tournament, and the first to ouster Nadal and Djokovic at the same clay-court event.
Whether it was simple mind games or genuine respect, both tennis legends heaped praise on the 19-year-old following his tour-leading fourth title of the season. Djokovic called the Spanish teenager “special” and “one of the main favorites” at Roland Garros, while his elder compatriot said he can “beat anyone in the world.”

Fresh off demolishing Alexander Zverev (+1600) in the Madrid final, Alcaraz has now won 10 matches in a row. But, it’s important to keep in mind that he has advanced past the third round of a Grand Slam just once in five attempts. Only a handful of players in history have won a major on their sixth try, although Rafa accomplished the feat at the 2005 French Open.
Other big names
Stefanos Tsitsipas (+600) reached the semi-finals and finals at Roland Garros in consecutive years, only to fall to Djokovic in five sets both times.
Daniil Medvedev (+3300) lost to Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals of last year’s French Open after making four straight first round exits in previous years. The world No. 2 is 0-3 versus Alcaraz and coming off injury, so a victory in Paris is likely not in the cards.
Diego Schwartzman (+6600) is the best longshot bet on the board. The 29-year-old Argentinian made the quarter-finals in 2020 and the semi-finals last year, losing to Nadal on both occasions.
