However, his 2025 season has been inconsistent, featuring three second-round Grand Slam exits and frustrating early tournament losses. Ruud himself has acknowledged the season’s challenges, stating he’s “not super satisfied overall” despite his Madrid triumph.
The Norwegian’s chances hinge on whether he can replicate his form at Madrid.

However, challenges remain. In 2025, Rune achieved a 66% win rate, considered average by the 2025 ATP Tour.
Now, he faces tough competition from second seed Casper Ruud and defending champion Tommy Paul. Although his aggressive baseline game and strong return capabilities make him a formidable contender, consistency will be key to capturing his second title of the season.

Matteo Berrettini

With a 14-14 win-loss record and no titles this season, Berrettini has struggled to replicate the peak form that took him to the Wimbledon final and to a world ranking of six in 2021-2022.
Injuries have plagued the 29-year-old throughout 2025, forcing him to withdraw from both the French Open and the US Open after retiring at the Italian Open due to injury. Berrettini has struggled on indoor hard courts throughout his career and has yet to reach a final under these conditions.

However, his powerful serve and aggressive baseline game remain dangerous. He will need to rediscover his best tennis to face fourth seed Ugo Humbert in the second round—a player he leads 3-1 in their head-to-head, but who will test his current form and fitness.
A longer shot but Berrettini may be worth a sprinkle at +900 to win this tournament outright.
