Carlos Alcarez sets sights on second career Miami Open title

  • Carlos Alcarez (+210) is favored to win his second career Miami Open title
  • Six-time champion Novak Djokovic (+900) has lost his opening match in three straight events
  • The Masters 1000 tournament will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida from March 19 to 30, 2025

Carlos Alcaraz claimed his first Masters 1000 trophy at the Miami Open back in 2022, becoming the youngest champion in tournament history. But the 21-year-old Spaniard hasn’t been back to the final since. Can Alcaraz avenge his Indian Wells semi-final loss to Jack Draper or will the Brit complete the rare Sunshine Double after winning in California last week?

Alcaraz favored over Draper

Carlos Alcaraz (+210) is favored to win his second-career Miami Open. He’s 13-3 at this tournament, and 15-3 on the year. The Spaniard had his 16-match Indian Wells winning streak snapped by Jack Draper (+900), who is looking to become only the 8th man to accomplish the rare “Sunshine Double”.

Draper trounced Alcarez 6-0 in the second set of his semi-final victory at Indian Wells before defeating Holger Rune in the finals. The new world No. 7 is looking to become just the second Brit to win a men’s singles title in Florida.

Djokovic looking dusty

Novak Djokovic (+900) is aiming for his record seventh title in Miami. The 37-year-old owns a 44-7 record at the event, but hasn’t won the tournament since it switched venues to Hard Rock Stadium in 2019. Worse yet, the Serbian is on a three-match losing streak and finds himself in the same half of the draw as Alcarez.

Conditions favor big servers

While Indian Wells switched to a Laykold hard-court surface this year, last week’s event had a 20% lower Ace Rate than the average tournament. In comparison, last year’s Miami Open had an Ace Rate 10% higher than the average tour event. These conditions favor big servers like Alexander Zverev (+1100). The tournament’s No. 1 seed made the championship match in 2018 and the semi-finals a year ago, but has a mediocre 4-4 record since reaching the Australian Open final in January.

Daniil Medvedev (+1600) fell to Holger Rune in the semi-finals at Indian Wells. The powerful Russian won this event in 2023 and has a 18-5 career record in Miami.

Best Longshots

Stefanos Tsitsipas (+2900) captured an ATP 500 title in Dubai in February before losing in straight sets to Holger Rune at Indian Wells in the Round of 16. Rested and ready for Miami, Tsitsipas could be matched up with Medvedev and Djokovic in the fourth round and quarterfinals.

Casper Ruud (+4200) is 10-3 in 2025 and reached the final in Miami in 2022 before losing to Alcarez. The Norwegian No. 5 seed should have plenty in the tank after losing his opening singles match in California.

Best Bet

Alexander Zverev (+1100) loves the fast courts in Miami, where he has a 17-9 all-time record. While the 27-year-old German has struggled since the Australian Open, this is the perfect tournament for him to turn his season around.
