Novak Djokovic Goes for the Grand Slam
Although Novak Djokovic will not accomplish the Golden Slam – as the Summer Games did not go well for the World Number 1 – he still has a chance at the Grand Slam. Novak’s plowed through the competition in 2021 – winning the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. All that is left is the US Open betting – to become the first man ever to win the Grand Slam in a calendar year. It is clear why tennis betting markets have him as the favourite.
Djokovic is 75-12 all-time at the US Open with three wins (2011, 2015, and 2018). He has also reached the finals of the tournament five times. His losses in the Finals were against Rafael Nadal (twice), Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and Andy Murray.
Sadly, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will miss the tournament (due to injuries). Stan Wawrinka is skipping. Andy Murray has qualified for the event but is past his prime. That leaves a relatively young class of players as the biggest challenge for the world no. one.
Time off since the Tokyo Olympics could also help Djokovic. He remains a master of his craft and would use the time to recover while still staying in excellent playing shape.
Some may think the pressure of completing the Calendar Slam is too much for Djokovic. His poor performance at the Olympics should not give you doubt about New York. Djokovic has never had success at the Summer Games. The US Open is somewhere he is frequently at his best.
Best Underdog to Bet will Win the 2021 US Open
Essentially everyone except for Djokovic is an underdog at the 2021 US Open. Daniil Medvedev is the second-highest ranked player behind Djokovic, but he has not looked the part recently. Alexander Zverev is coming off a win at the 2021 Cincinnati Open and was the runner-up at the US Open last year. However, we see better value than his at +550.
That brings us to Andrey Rublev at +4000. Rublev is in the midst of the greatest calendar year of his tennis career. He picked up a Gold Medal in the mixed doubles at the 2020 Summer Olympics, set career bests at three of four Grand Slams in the last year, and nearly knocked off Zverev to win the Cincinnati Open.

At the 2020 US Open, Rublev advanced to the quarterfinals for the second time in his career. His run to the quarterfinals was impressive. Rublev only dropped one set (of 12) over the first four rounds at the tournament. In the quarterfinals, he lost to Daniil Medvedev but took him to seven games in two of the three sets.
In the Cincinnati semi-finals, he exacted some revenge against Daniil Medvedev to pick up his first win against the world number two. With reaching the Cincinnati Open Finals, he improved his record to 41-14 this year and 25-7 on hard courts. Package it all together, and you get Andrey Rublev as the best underdog to win the 2021 US Open.

Ashleigh Barty a Worthy Favourite to Bet
World no. one Ashleigh Barty opens the US Open as the favourite to win, and we believe she deserves to be. Barty is coming off an impressive win at the Cincinnati Masters. She cruised through the five rounds without dropping a set. She also won Wimbledon this year, dropping only two sets in seven rounds.
While Barty has not yet won the Women’s singles at the US Open, she has won at Arthur Ashe Stadium. She won the 2018 US Open Women’s Doubles tournament. She also made the finals again in 2019. Barty was absent from the US Open in 2020.
She has been excellent on the hard course over the last two seasons – with a record of 30-6. We expect her to continue her run and take home the third Grand Slam of her career.
Ons Jabeur is Live at +3300
Our favourite underdog on the women’s side to win the 2021 US Open is Ons Jabeur. She is coming into the tournament off her best performances at the French Open (fourth round), Wimbledon (quarters) and US Open (third round).
I hired @SabalenkaA and @OGovortsova as my new hitting partners .. well at least for the Day 😅😂 pic.twitter.com/Oqo0qHZF5n
— Ons Jabeur (@Ons_Jabeur) August 23, 2021
Jabeur has her best winning percentage this season at 72% – thanks to her first career win (the Birmingham Classic). She played well at the Canadian Masters and Cincinnati Open, going 5-2. Some notable wins in that stretch include one against world no. seven Bianca Andreescu and world no. eight Iga Swiatek.
It’s a good stretch for a player who looks like she is right on the edge of entering her prime. We like the value of her winning the women’s tournament at +3300.
