Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno have fought three times since December 2020. The two top flyweights in the UFC will face off for the fourth time when they meet in the co-main event of UFC 283, which takes place on Saturday, January 21 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. ESPN+ pay-per-view is where fans can catch the flyweight title fight. Here is some background on the card’s co-main event fighters before we discuss, in detail, the UFC 283 betting breakdown.

When Figueiredo and Moreno first met at UFC 256, Figueiredo retained the title he won in July 2020 after his fight with Moreno ended in a majority draw. In the rematch, which took place in June 2021, Moreno handed Figueiredo the first submission loss of his MMA career when he submitted him in the third round via rear-naked choke. The trilogy bout went down in January. Figueiredo got his title back that night with a unanimous decision win.

While Figueiredo tended to hand injuries for the rest of 2022, the UFC held an interim flyweight title fight. That July matchup saw Moreno score a TKO win over Kai Kara-France and earn the interim 125-pound crown.

Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno breakdown and analysis

First, let’s look at how the three previous fights between these two played out. The first meeting ended in a draw. However, the referee deducted a point from Figueiredo in the third round for a groin strike. That point cost him the victory. On the other hand, Moreno left no question about his win in the rematch, securing a third-round submission. As for the trilogy fight, although the score was close (48-47 x 3), Figueiredo scored three knockdowns on his way to that victory.

Prior to this fight, Moreno moved to a new gym after his head coach, James Krause, was banned by the UFC as it investigates betting irregularities around one of Krause’s other fighters. Moreno moved to Fortis MMA to prepare for his third fight with Figueiredo. Fortis is a good gym and Sayif Saud is a solid head coach. The change in gyms will not be a massive difference for Moreno. After all, he has three previous fights to lean on for experience heading into UFC 283.

I think Moreno learned his lesson in the third fight. His aggression got the best of him and I think that cost him the fight. I think we will see some aggression from Moreno in this outing, but I think he wil be more selective and look to tax Figueiredo’s cardio and fitness and get this fight into the championship rounds and then he will turn up the heat on his opponent.

Who has the edge

The 35-year-old Figueiredo is an incredibly talented fighter, but after 24 professional fights, the book is written on him. He is powerful on the feet and more than competent on the ground. Figueiredo is a fighter who can beat almost anyone in the flyweight division.

While we have seen the best of Figueiredo, I don’t think the same can be said of the 29-year-old Moreno. His performance against Kara-France showed that he is still leveling up his game, especially in the striking department.

The difference in this fight could be Figueiredo’s time away from the octagon as well as the fact that his weight cuts are getting more difficult the older he gets.

Best UFC 283 Bets

With two of their three previous meetings going the five-round distance, I believe the UFC 283 matchup between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno will also go the distance. With that, I think the best UFC 283 bet to make concerning the flyweight title fight is for Moreno to walk away with the title. The pressure of fighting in Brazil, a hard weight cut and time are all against Figueiredo in this contest.

Best UFC 283 co-main event picks: Brandon Moreno to defeat Deiveson Figueiredo via decision for the UFC flyweight title.
